Not the first time I've heard complaints about the low speed behavior of DCTs. But laggy shifts at speed is a new one to me, as I thought that's where they were supposed to excel.
Norm
Not the shift itself, but the delay when hitting the button at anything less then WOT is still there on every DCT I've driven.

On a side note, the newest DCT's are said to experience little to none of the issues mentioned above. Super fast gear changes, instant response from request, and normal low speed behavior.
That is all in the software so owners should expect to make several trips to the dealer for updates. I prefer my software to be between my ears.

With all the problems with the MT82 and how fast the auto guys were going. I was all set to order a 2014 with an auto. Now that i waited to see what the 15s look like and their irs i might go back to wanted a manual. I have never owned an automatic until i bought my Raptor. I was one of those guys that said they would never buy an automatic mustang but there were guys slapping a beef cake special and a stall on their auto coyotes running low 10s high 9s. I'm a manual guy at heart but the auto is so tempting. I guess I have a while more to decide now.

Got'cha.

Irritating, and kind of like an itch that you can't reach to scratch.

I would have to test drive the auto and see how well the paddles behave in the various modes.

Auto hands down. I like going to the strip and I want to slap a paxton on mine later on down the road. I don't think the IRS will be sturdy enough to take the stress of a manual with the added hp and two. Also Ford's automatic for the 5.0 seems to be near bulletproof. The manuals have issues from what I read on the forums.
I'm with you. Tried and true. The auto is incredible. I'm kinda of hoping they make the auto an option for any future high HP model. Chevy did it with the ZL1 and I wish it was an option on the GT500.

I do enjoy rowing gears :) but the current "slush box" is sweet!

The only reason I could see that would justify an auto in my opinion is for those of us that spend a lot of time going straight and fast for a 1/4 mile. A properly set up auto for drag racing is hard to beat. I am buying a sports car, not a CobraJet (though I would love to have the TT 5.0). I don't have any dragstrips that are "close" to me (110-130 miles away.)Thus a manual is the only option for me, as having gears to rip through while making that canyon run is the only way to go.

I'm leaning towards the auto but I need to drive it first. My last 2 Mustangs were auto and they were ok but I really want control over all 6 gears. Unless the new DSC are great, manual would be the way to go, imo

Manual for me. I have driven some nice DCT cars but I still prefer three pedals.

Will auto get access to PP and Track packs? Looking at the current car it doesn't. Would be a big deal.

Without question, all should know how to drive stick. Having said that, I will order an auto this time around. 50 plus years of driving stick has taken its toll.

I vote Manual, while recognizing the auto's durability.

I have a DCT S4 and my opinion that while convenient in traffic its not as fun as a manual. I am interested to see the improvements made to the automatic (especially considering they added a rev match feature on downshifts). In my opinion in anything but track driving BMWs new 8 speed "sport auto" is the best out there it shifts almost as quickly and reacts pretty fast to the paddles with none of the DCTs occasional jerkiness in traffic. For the most part the DCT is smooth but its a computer trying to read your intentions so it can be befuddled.

In my opinion nothing beats a manual in every situation except stop and go traffic... which i have to deal with everyday... cant see myself not getting a manual in a mustang tho that auto would have to wow me

Decreasing rotating mass improves throttle response. The torque converter acts as a flywheel for the crankshaft. A lighter flywheel has less inertia, and can accelerate (or decelerate) more quickly.

This might be one of the biggest "bang for your buck" changes they could have made, in terms of driver experience.
Automatic? *snicker*
