Automatic? *snicker*
Enjoy your "third" Pedal while you can. Its quickly disappearing and the days of "rowing your gears" with the need of a left foot will eventually be left to the trash bin of history. Sad but true. I "hate" the concept of "Paddle Shifters"!

Agree...I've been blessed to drive some of the worlds best automatics and no matter how good they are they are missing something. I realize the specs of the auto are vastly superior in some cases. At some point the numbers become irrelevant (I dont think the Mustang is at that point yet) and you miss out on the experience....

Just like the HP wars were over with the GT500. Hybrids would take over by 2010. RWD was dead. The Mustang would be replaced by the Probe. Auto seat belts were the future in safety. Pickup trucks are dead...I can keep going with the junk people say on forums. As long as there is a customer there WILL always be a product available in some shape. Especially cars popping up with manuals that never had them. Hell look at the Expedition its plug was pulled in 2011 but demand kept it alive and now they gave it a complete update.

The manual is merely in a state of decline, but market tastes do change. Vinyl records have a significant following, after the CD nearly killed them. But the purists held out, and their preferred format still exists, and has had a surprising resurgence in the market--nearly every new major release is available in vinyl now. In 20 years, we will likely still be able to get a manual Mustang. By then, I'll be in my 60s, and might not give half a crap anymore. In 1969, Playboy magazine's auto reviewer claimed that the manual was about to die. Well, here we are in 2014, manuals are still here, better than ever, despite automatics being better than ever.

No driving enthusiast worth his or her salt would choose an automatic over a manual, sorry. If it's about saving a fraction of a second in acceleration, then the argument isn't from an enthusiast who values the connection to his/her vehicle. Short of calling such people number-nerdy, lazy, or too uncoordinated to learn, I will merely say that they might appreciate sporty cars, and like driving fast cars, but aren't driving enthusiasts. Having Tang in the cupboard doesn't make one an astronaut.

My 13 V6 is an Auto. It's nice as a daily driver, and because it's a V6. But, my 69 Corvette is a manual. I feel like a high performance vehicle demands the control offered by a manual.

However, these auto transmissions have come a long way. The rev-matching downshift in the new one is exciting. Paddle shifters are more fun than the button I have on my auto.

Either way you're going to have fun and like it. If it's a "meh, doesn't matter" save the $1500 from the auto and use it to mod your new manual. :)

Driving a manual now, although not a mustang. My next one will be a stick for sure, almost certainly a mustang. :headbang:

My past 2 mustangs have been manual but I am sick of it in heavy traffic. And now that this gen has paddle shifters, rev matching, line lock, and remote start on the auto I will be getting that this time. Plus I dont do any track racing any more. Only racing I will do is casual drag strip times with friends form work for kicks.

I've never even sat in a car with a manual transmission, much less driven one.

I'm very sorry that you lost a leg in service to your country. I have a great deal of respect for your sacrifice for our freedom. It's veterans like you that really deserve our support. It must really seem unfair at times that you can't operate an enthusiast vehicle, but such matters are trivial in light of your disability. I salute you, sir!

More manual= less distracted drivers (although I'm sure some will be talented at shifting and texting at the same time)....... :tsk:

To each their own. But personally I like rowing through the gears, lifting the clutch pedal as fast as possible to (still) get smooth engagement, rev-matching (with human power), double clutching, and heel toeing, etc. It's fun, and everyone could learn it. :)

That is precisely why, when looking for a daily driver, it has to be a manual transmission. If i'm going to spend a large amount of time in this vehicle, it needs to be enjoyable.

I've been in hours long stop and go freeway traffic, driving both manual and automatic and I can crawl slower and decelerate faster without having to always hit my brakes when I'm driving a manual transmission. It's at the point that when I'm stuck in traffic with an automatic, I'm hating my lack of control over the vehicle. The more traffic I drive in, the more I'd insist on manual transmission. I've wondered if I'm just too much of a control freak though.

I personally enjoy driving the few BMW`s and Audi`s that still have Manual Transmissions that occasionally go through the AuctionBlock at Manheim. If your willing to forfeit significantly "resale value" by opting for the Stick Shift, another factor that is just as important if not more so is where you live and the type of driving you usually do. If you live in a verily populated Urban Area with constant Stop & Go Traffic or spends hours on the Interstate Highway is rush hour traffic, also Stop & Go, constantly pushing in the Clutch Pedal and inching forwards a few feet only to repeat the same procedure continuously for hours gets real tired, real quick.
