I posted my review of the Ecoboost here:

To make a long story short, if you buy the EB, you'll wind up with a little V8 envy. At least, if you're like me. Yet, I'm happy I went with the EB over the V8, because I would have regretted debt and payments if I had gone GT. And that would have been worse for me.

It sounds like you're somewhere in the same general area. Anyway, my review of the EB pulls no punches. Good and bad.

Overall, though, it's a great car.

I liked your review actually. I think I just have to drive both models and see what works for me. I am certainly able to give a bit up to get the GT if I feel it's worth it. It already wins on prestige and coolness imo.

why not just finance the extra $10k or so if you were paying all cash an could only afford the EB?

It's good to get opinions to an extent, but buy what you want to buy. I grew up when cubic inches (or liter's) where king. Go 5.0L and you won't regret it.

An extra 10k is something like 171 dollars more a month on a 5 year loan at 3%. Not everyone can just afford that. I have my limits, and the GT configured how I would would be just below that max limit per month after dumping everything I can as a down payment. I assume his situation was pretty similar.

One thing that really bothers me about the premium (and I already know I am being pedantic about this) is the climate control interface. There is no physical button to change the blower mode: you have to go into MFT. I like to be able to set it to top vents, bottom or both depending on the situation and I don't like that there's no button for it yet there are separate ones for a/c, defrost AND max a/c, max defrost. Redundant much? Replace max defrost with 'mode' and we're all good.

Check out a base GT...

I've gone through my budgeting, and I can afford a GT premium if I just cut away about 70% of my fun money every month. I have never driven a RWD car before, and the highest HP car I have owned is an AWD a4 with 170 hp.
Sounds like an EB would be a great choice for you. Good luck.

I had a 2007 Mustang GT Premium until I stupidly sold it.

I currently have a 2011 F-150 Ecobeast.

Love the power, miss the sound of a V8.

When I pull the trigger it will be the 5.0.

This. The base model Mustangs are very well equipped. Push button remote start, HID headlights, bluetooth, gauge computer (with track apps!), power seats, LED fog lights, soft-touch materials, steering modes, heavy stitching on the cloth, etc...

Yeah, it's "base" but base today is a far cry from base a few years ago. Honestly, if budget is a big deal for you, consider a base ECOBOOST. You'll save a ton of money over both GT and Ecoboost Premium and you won't be missing much (well, except the V8 sound).

If you're dead set on buying something in the low $30k range, though, the Base GT is a good buy. I would have bought it if I could have afforded to. Only buy the premium if you REALLY want the premium features -- if they are really worth the extra $5000 or so.

With premium, these are the advantages:
1. Upgraded stereo and touch screen -- but this is MyFord Touch Sync, and honestly, I didn't like it. I preferred the basic head unit because touchscreens in cars irritate me for the reasons BmacMI mentioned. It effectively takes over much of the climate control, and you don't get the easy buttons and knobs which I still prefer (you may be different).

2. Leather. And some nice trim pieces here and there on the dash.

3. Ambient lighting and color control. You can make the gauge cluster change colors, and the ambient lighting. It's kind of gimmicky, if you ask me.

4. Drive modes. Base still gives you steering modes, but Premium gives you some stability and traction control settings in the drive modes. I live in Florida, I had no use for these. Others have told me they are very handy in winter, in some areas, though.

Is it worth $5000 or so to you? I can't answer that for you, but for me it definitely wasn't. Even if I had the money, I don't think I would have gone Premium. That being said, several folks here disagree with me on that. What's it worth to YOU?

Well, except for the first two.
Nah. A GT in the right neighborhood will result in a supply of scantily clad women for free.

Now the drinking... well, yeah, that's a problem.
