Paint not very durable

I have to think Ford has put crap paint on Mustangs after reading about many folk's stories and finding what seems like a new chip every time I see the freeway. The paint on my 2016 Ram, damn near perfect.

it is very very thin and considering a new paint job cost as much or more as an engine replacement, something needs to be done about it, rather than costing the buy hundreds to wrap something that should be done right from the get go..i have 15 good sized chips in my facia with 8k miles on the car..gonna have it taken off and resprayed correctly next year but its utter bs

My GT was trashed from the dealer. Holograms, swirls, many scratches.

Corrected and ceramic coated it. Looks great, easy to clean, no towel required to dry.

I operate a detailing business, it's never too late to put some sort of protection on the paint.

Start an online petition for Ford to see... or hit all of their social media forums with pics and the message gets through to their QC guys... I mean, some Mustangs are coming off the line with shit paint before any chips....

After 3 years the paint on my magnetic metallic Mustang is actually very nice and hardly a blemish. I invested in a nice Colgan bra for long trips to keep the rock chips from working over the front. My last 2 cars, Audi and Genesis coupe were red and had nasty paint chips.

People criticize those old bras constantly, how ugly they are, or how they scratch the paint, but NOTHING protects the front end better. None of my bras EVER scratched my paint, but the bra, and the car were always cleaned at the same time, weekly, or anytime after it got rained on. Sure, if you're a dumbass and just leave it on indefinitely, it'll do more damage than any stray rocks could do, but you sometimes have to be smarter than the product you're using.

I'm tempted to get one for my '18, but....it is a lot of maintenance compared to a clear bra.

After watching the healing process of clear bra (Xpel Ultimate and Suntek Ultra, both 10 year warranties) I'm sold. Literally watched a rock hit on a different car I owned which would have been an easy chip without it, heal with the sunlight. It's not a hoax or a gimmick. It does protect well against pretty decently sized rocks.

Oooh man, there are a lot of resources out there. I recommend hitting up autogeek.com where they have a lot of training videos. A lot of them are basic, but they will get you going. Just start reading and researching. It's not hard, but be careful. I've seen many DIYers do some pretty significant damage to their paint.

They are one of the worst things you can do to the car. Dirt and other crap gets stuck in them and you will scratch the paint taking them on and off. I've corrected the paint on plenty of cars with those stupid bras. You think it didn't mar the paint, but I can guarantee it did, and you just don't know how to find it.

PPF is THE best option for paint protection, as far as durability goes. Ceramic coating is #2.

Curious to know which marque’s paint tolerates rocks and what not better? And from what decade...if that matters or has some relevance.....

Highest level of protection? PPF over the entire car. A shop that knows what they're doing will charge $5-7K for it, so it's NOT cheap.

Ceramic coating is a less expensive option. Again, a reputable installer will charge $1000 and up to coat a new car, and that depends on the level of correction needed. An installer worth a damn will not ceramic coat a car without correcting the paint first.

My advice starts with not letting the dealer touch the car when it gets delivered. Their "detailers" can and do incur a lot of damage to the paint.
