Has anyone ever had this happen? I had my car detailed and wheels ceramic coated at my local shop recently. Upon first washing since the the ceramic coating, I noticed the paint coming off all four center caps. These two were the worst. I have since gotten replacements from Shelby. I had washed the wheels several times before having them ceramic coated and never noticed any imperfections in the caps. Could the ceramic coating have caused the paint to peel off the caps? Assuming the caps are poor quality compared to the wheels themselves, but I would like to prevent this from happening in the future. Thanks!

Yes - on other cars.

if reasonable, i’d ask for another replacement. Or else you’re stuck buying new ones!

They might look cool unpainted, although they would also be harder to see

I already got a new set from Shelby for a small fortune. I’ll see how they hold up from basic washing and no coating. If I still have issues I will ask them for something else. Nice wheels should not come with sub par center caps IMO.

My guess is they used a strong cleaner on the wheels before coating them.

That could be. It’s just odd that the finish didn’t start coming off until I washed the car for the first time after the ceramic was applied.

Would PPF be a good idea, given how expensive they are?
Maybe? However, the silver colored parts of the caps are raised compared to the black painted areas, if that makes sense. So the surface of the caps is not completely level. Not sure how PPF would look on them but I can ask about it when I have my stripes and PPF redone in the spring.

They are the Steeda rotors. I didn't like how the stock rear rotors developed a rust ring on the inner part of the rotor. You don't get that with the two piece design. They also save quite a bit of weight compared to the performance pack rotors, which you won't notice on a street car but it's still cool!

Those center caps ARE rad though. Nifty.
