From someone who has driven all across this great Country, I would take @Atlas1 advice and cut through Kansas to Amarillo and hit 40 west to Cali. Much better road conditions, but tape the car so it doesn't get sandblasted. Enjoy the drive!
My experience was moving to Nebraska with a rear wheel drive trailblazer SS on summer tires. That first day of snow was an experience to say the least lol. I don’t ever want to be caught in that type of situation again! When you struggle to get out of the driveway you know it’s going to be a bad day on the road.

Back in 2008 I think it was, Seattle got more than a usual amount of snow. I was getting my hair cut, was in the army at the time, and the snow started coming down. By the time I was outta there, there was a good powdery layer on the ground. My G35 literally slide backwards down a hill trying to get home, terrifying to say the least.

My front drive Prelude didn't get very far either, abandoned at bottom of hill at a gas station for a couple of days. Summer tires on both.... yeah that doesn't work.

i've been here almost 7 years and the last 3 we have had pretty good snow storms in February. if you only had a mach 1 you would have been staying at home for a week :cwl:
my audi did great last year in the snow except when they plowed the main street next to mine and built up a snow wall 4' high. lucky for me 2 of my neighbors have lifted jeeps and created a pathway through it otherwise i would have been stuck at home for a couple days

Posted this in another thread too so apologies if you’ve seen it but… CarPro CQuartz 3.0 UK ceramic with Eraser prep. Done myself in less than a day for under $200 and I’ve never seen water shed off paint like it does on my car. If mine had been shipped rail to the dealer I’d have done iron remover too but that’s a painless extra step. Hard to make silver reflective but here you go… hard for me to imagine the benefit of paying 4 figures for ceramic unless the car isn’t new and you need paint correction.

How many ML's did you need and did you do more than one coat?

I’d have to check at home but it was a TINY bottle and I only used about half, pretty shocking. I think it was 50 mL. Just washed, Erasered (super easy), and one coat of ceramic. Was time consuming only because of having to do small sections at a time and waiting for them to flash before buffing them out.

Alright, deciding b/w the tires. I want the Michelin PS 4S however 2 issues I feel:

1. In the bay area, I do see temperatures drop below 40 in certain areas.
2. Traveling from Granger, IA through any stretch, even KS through Albuquerque and Vegas/LA is going to go through zones below 40.

In both cases, I worry that I am going to damage the tires and the car itself. Any recommendations!?

Edit:

I would take @Atlas1 advice and cut through Kansas to Amarillo and hit 40 west to Cali.
I think this could fix problem #2.

Here is what Michelin sent me when I asked if the PS4S could be used in place of the Cup 2's:

Michelin Ultra-High Performance (UHP) Sport Summer tires use tread compounds that are optimized for maximum dry and damp grip in temperate conditions. As the temperature of the compound nears freezing, the grip level of the tire begins to degrade. Michelin does not recommend using UHP Sport Summer tires when tire temperatures drop below 40°F (5°C) or on snow and ice. At tire temperatures below 20°F (-7°C) Michelin UHP Sport Summer tires may develop surface cracks in the upper sidewall and tread area if flexed. Do not use, roll, or drop MICHELIN UHP Sport Summer tires with temperatures below 20°F (-7°C). If the tires have been cooled to 20°F (-7°C) or less, let them warm up in a heated space to at least 40°F (5°C) before being installed or moving a vehicle on which they are installed. Do not apply heat or blow heated air directly on the tires. Always inspect tires before use. Never use a tire with freeze cracks, breaks, or damage to the sidewall or tread.

And here is Continental's advice (much less descriptive):

Thank you for contacting Customer Relations. This is a UHP summer tire and cannot be used in temperatures below 45°.

Hope this helps.

I know some members are all excited for you to drive it long distance but it is not their car. It is yours. Think about it. You are driving it over Winter weather. Is it worth the chance of going through bad weather even if you take the southern routes? I would just spend the $ for an enclosed carrier.

I haven't taken the southern routes but I have taken I-80 from the East Coast all the way here. The stretch up Wyoming down Utah can pulverize your paint job

Question. Handling Package vs Non Handling. The differences are sticky tires that are one inch wider, GT500 spoiler $500, Extra front splitter $200, front-wheel fender guards $250, adjustable front struts $250, and specially tuned suspension for $3700. You can add some or all the above pretty easy. with the exception of "specially tuned suspension" not sure what those enhancements are. I did not want Sport Cup sticky tires that don't last long anyway. I had them on my 19 Vette and I don't track them. They become giant vacumes of rocks and you can't even drive in the winter in many states with them as well as the hopped when cold in tight turns. Does anyone know what is specially tuned in the suspension?

The handling package gets stiffer springs and rear sway bar, and different Magneride tuning.
