The folks that did my full wrap (using 3M Pro with a 10 year warranty and all the free follow ups I want/need) said that the going rates for PPF are VERY MUCH location dependant. Fortunately Calgary is very competitive so the price was reasonable. The city to the north of us, Edmonton, has significantly higher rates for the same products/services... Perhaps that is also the case in the States?

Absolutely true here as well. Just on this forum I’ve seen a big range in prices quoted.

Looks like shipping is going to be about $2K from Iowa to CA. I thought it was gonna be more like $1K. Yikes.

drive out, tow it home! or fly out and drive it, bring some track tape to wrap the vulnerable spots for the drive. that can take care of your break in.

edit, if you time it right, you can drive south from there to arkansas/texas, then go west so you stay in warmer clear weather.

Road trip time!
Yes strongly considering road trip and just wondering if I should tape things as Jimmy mentioned or get the PPF done with Granger.

The biggest risk to driving here is Sports 4S tires that can't survive low temperatures. Need to figure out the drive.

This thread has been full of helpful advice btw. I can't think you all enough.

PPF or a shit ton of that track tape to get you home. Do you have to race home with the car or can you take your time driving back? I think it was Jimmy that mentioned leaving Iowa and heading south. That’s what I would do. I wouldn’t want any part of the Midwest with a Mach 1 on 4’s lol. I lived there for a few years and that weather is no joke.

Don't know much about track tape good to know. I am not in a hurry, actually planning a holiday pretty soon, so this is not an issue.

I am likely going to travel down south to Wichita and stay with a friend for a day and then go through Santa Fe, LA and then drive home. This would be fun overall.

I am still contemplating what kind of PPF to go for and if I should get ceramic on top.

But firstly I am going to get tires changed. I am going to get Michelin 4S vs all season, should be good for the bay area mostly.

I drove mine. Would do it over again a hundred times. Only wish I would have allocated more time so I could have played more rounds of golf along the way.

That’s going to be a fun drive. I don’t know much about PPF other than the shop that did my car is really good and they use xpel so that’s what I went with. If you’re trying to be careful with the budget you can skip coating the film. Track tape might be good for you to at least get home and then you can decide on what to do as far as coverage.

Granger does it for 6500 full body with XPel. Right now I am also thinking if they do it matte or not, I have to check.

I am wondering if any one on the forums got a matte ppf.

But yeah, I am going to check out track tape if that could work for me. Might make things a lot easier. :)

From someone who has driven all across this great Country, I would take @Atlas1 advice and cut through Kansas to Amarillo and hit 40 west to Cali. Much better road conditions, but tape the car so it doesn't get sandblasted. Enjoy the drive!
