Hey y'all,

I need some opinions on Ceramic Coating's that would best/greatly enhance my Mischievous Purple GT Cali Special.

I've narrowed down myself down to one of the 3 combo's below

1) GTECHNIQ CSL + EXO V5
2) GYEON SYNCHRO
3) GYEON PURE + some form of topper (probably EXO or Carpro Gliss)

Other things to note is my car is currently coated with Avalonking Armorshield IX (but it was one layer and I don't expect it to make it past the winter/next Easter would basically be 1 yr in SE MI).

I'll be getting the car paint corrected and ceramic coated at a trusted local detailer during early spring (ahead of the cars & coffee/car show openers) (their preferred coating is GTECHNIQ CSL on its own, owner has down is ZL1 and they are testing the exo v5 on his son's fiesta st ahead of the winter).

Only Ceramic I have experience w/ is Avalonking granted I've begun trying out some gtechniq and gyeon "support" products and can't really make a decision.

My detailer said I can bring any coating I want and he'll reducing the standard pricing accordingly and just charge me the labor so now its literally just which product will both give me good durability and make my car shine like it never has before 😉

Thanks for all insight ahead of time (still relatively new to the detailing rabbit hole so advice and more options is always appreciated)

Toppers are unnecessary and IMO a borderline scam-the whole point of ceramic coating is to protect your paint, and now they want people to freak out about their ceramic coating wearing off? It never ends with these detailing companies. IMO it's a way for detailers and shops to hide ceramic coating failure. The ones where they force you to come in for maintenance of the coating every 6 months? They're just washing the car and putting a topper on top of the coating. Anything to avoid reapplying the actual coating.

I DIY cquartz uk 3.0 all our cars, no toppers necessary. The oldest coating is 3 years old and still holding strong. When i think its starting to go, i just wash the car and its back to full beading strength. Half of those 3 years were outside, now it's garaged, but i don't particularly baby the car, it gets washed every 2 or 3 weeks.

If it were me, I'd go with Gyeon Synchro, followed by CSL + EXO.

I have Pure EVO on one of my cars, it looks fantastic and was super easy to apply. The only drawback was the comparative slickness, something a lot of coatings exhibit. This is where the topper would come in.

On it's own, Gyeon Mohs EVO is slicker than Pure, but when teamed with Skin to create Syncro, slickness and hydrophobic qualities are taken to the next level. I would say the same about teaming CSL with EXO, the layer of EXO is what gives the coating its extreme slickness.

With a new car on the way, I'll be using Mohs EVO myself for the slickness, without having to apply an additional layer in the form of Skin or EXO on CSL.

I've never try Gtechniq but I do love Gyeon stuff. I think the Syncro would be the best of the Gyeon, it being 2 layer would add a little more in the longevity department. I hae CanCoat Evo on my daily driver and it is only rated at 12 months but I must say it is holding up pretty nicely after a few months..

Gtechniq makes good stuff, I use their wheel coating. CSL is the go-to for most shops that use GTechniq. If he can get Crystal Serum Ultra, that’s the professional grade coating from GTechniq. It will last longer than CSL

FWIW, I coated my car with Ethos Matrix V2.0 last fall and it’s held up beautifully so far (I drive my car year round here in Chicago). I top with Ethos Resist in the spring and fall for added slickness. Not sure why some people think toppers are scams, it’s a maintenance product. Coatings are not maintenance free, they need to be maintained like anything else.

I did my cars with Blue Collar One back at the beginning of August. It is supposed to be a 5 year coating. So far I am really impressed. This is from Apex Detail on Youtube and he is out here in PA.
His last product, I had on my car for 2 years and I maybe washed my car 3 times in that period. I had to use his coating this year as I got bumped in a parking lot earlier this year and they had to install a new bumper and repaint the hood so I used that as an excuse to try his new product. I was so impressed that I put it on my son's and wife's car.
I have used Gyeon Pure and carpro3UK and up until then I had prefered carpro
Below are the results and I have to say, the camera does not do it justice

I love watching Brian’s videos. Been wanting to try his coating but I don’t have any more cars to coat. Guess I gotta go buy another one 🤣

+1 on CQuartz. Brilliant long lasting shine that even defeats stink bugs! 😂 (I posted a short thread on this recently.). $100 DIY.

the only thing a coating needs is to be thoroughly washed regularly. If you are needing to put a spray on top of your ceramic coating to keep it from wearing off you might have gotten a crappy coating or are letting nasty stuff (salt, sap, bug guts etc) sit on the paint too long. If I need to put a spray on top of my coating every 6 months I’d have just used a spray wax that lasts 6 months instead of waste a day polishing and then coating the car. Whatever you put on top of the ceramic is gonna mask what the ceramic is supposed to do for you I.e. make the car easier to clean.

Coatings degrade over time like everything else, they just take longer than traditional waxes and sealants. The topper helps rejuvenate it, it doesn’t mask anything, especially if you use a topper that is formulated to work with the coating (i.e. Exo is formulated specifically to work with CSL and CSU). Is it a requirement, no of course not (at least not for most coatings). Most coatings will do just fine without it, although depending on climate conditions the coating may not last the maximum advertised lifespan.

Personally, I want to get the maximum life out of my coating, especially since I drive my car year round which includes road salt season here. Proper maintenance washes, which includes a full decon wash a couple times a year to unclog the coating’s pores, along with a topper once or twice a year should help me get the full 5 years out of my coating.

And some toppers are made purely for additional slickness and gloss, which a lot of people like, myself included. But it is not a requirement for most coatings.

Before instantly jumping to “scam” when it comes to detailing products it helps to do some researching on what they actually do. Ceramic is less porous than clearcoat. But it’s not failproof. It can still become saturated with microscopic particles of dirt and debris just like painted clear can. The toppers help to fill in those voids and slow down the erosion of the ceramic over time.

Ceramic isn’t fool proof, it still requires maintenance.

This, right here is why I'm even considering a topper in the first place, my car doesn't have a garage, I'm an apartment dweller with a semi exposed car port (basically a steel roof over an assigned parking spot which is why I want the extra topper). If a topper can help manage water spotting which and condensation drip from my car port over the sring/summer/fall thats all the proof I need to call it worth it. If I had a garage I probably would be going full diy with a ceramic coating without a topper as the car would be well enough insulated.
