I got the key made. It works everywhere except the thunk release by seat cushion. Now I am sure it is a BCM issue. Is there a way to bypass the BCM? If I had a coupe I could lower the seats and crawl in there and pull the trunk release.
What is my next move?

A locksmith in town gave me a good deal for 2. Not a great deal it is 160 for 2 keys cause he had to go by the VIN
How did you prove to the locksmith that the car was yours? Just wondering.

Are you talking about the fob as a key? Open it up, the key you need to release in the seat cushion is a metal key inside the fob. There really is only one other place for that metal key to be used, and that is in the door if you pop the cover off the handle.

I got the trunk to open. I did not twist the key far enough. I tied a string to the trunk release handle leading to outside of trunk, it works ok

I had to show registration and DL

I too have a convertible and today my battery my trip to work was hindered after my 10 day vacation. It puzzled me as I left a higher quality Battery Tender powering the car over the 10 days to keep a charge.

So with the battery dead, I figured, no problem; my high-end emergency battery jumper device was in my trunk (boot for our UK friends ).

Oops! I couldn't get into the trunk. I've helped others with the battery jumper device, but couldn't help myself.

So based on what the OP and other convertible owners learned, I located the switch tightly wedged about 3 inches up from the bottom seat bolster, between the rear seat back (driver's side) and the adjacent plastic quarter panel cover. (thanks to those who led me on the right track).

I suppose the tight quarters were intentional to make access prohibitive for bad folks in a hurry. What a pain! It was difficult to a) access, and b) have sufficient room to rotate the key in the lock.

Anyway, for those wondering what the emergency unlock device looks like...see the pic below.
