Seems like I heard chevron at one point. In general pennzoil/Quaker state use GTL base oils and mobil1 largely uses pao because they each own the respective technology to produce it, but there are tons of exceptions to that. Outside of those two, like castrol, valvoline, and chevron, use the minimum to get by as synthetic (group 3).

My car used around 1.5 to 2 liters between first services. I went back to the dealership to get it topped up each time and have it recorded. No one at Ford was surprised or really cared how much oil it was burning. No one at the dealership could tell me what oil they put in it even. The second service I got done somewhere else and put Penrite hpr5 5w40 and it's not used oil since. I service every 10k klm and it's done 80k klm now.
Mine is a 2018 GT and I've had it since new.
Sorry I should say I'm in Australia so I'm not sure if Penrite is available in the US. I also use Ryco syntec oil filters. They seem to be the best available here.

This is more true than I’d like it to be!
"Zero Calorie"
"Organic"
"Made in America"
"All Inclusive"

The oil companies know that the average person won't have the time, energy or even understanding to evaluate "synthetic blend" vs "full synthetic" and read the fine print.

Most synthetics are Group 3, which comes from a refinery and is really just cleaned-up, fancy conventional oil. And Group 1 and 2 conventional oils could not pass modern industry standards if they didn't have some 3, 4 or 5 blended in. So all conventional oils are technically synthetic blends, and most synthetics are really just fancy conventionals. The only one thats in a gray area, in my mind, is the GTL-based Group 3+ that Pennzoil makes. It doesn't come from a refinery or chemical plant and it doesn't fit well in the 3 category but definitely isn't 4 or 5.

I think Driven uses an MPAO base stock with similar outcomes, they just don't have to mix as much group IV and V into it as a viscosity improver.

The reason I think these approaches are BETTER is that we've had multiple discussions about the dimension of engine lubricants with "fresh" straight out of the bottle vs after moderate use vs at the end of the service interval.

Like jumping to a higher group, GTL and MPAO base stocks will hold up better or closer to their advertised and fresh properties than a soup of shitty Group 3 with some all stars mixed in to prop up it's weight.

It's kinda like, would you rather have a football team with mostly of high school players and a couple of NFL pro bowlers or a solid group of mediocre college players?

Like coke zero and diet coke :)
To this day I'll never understand the Diet Coke fan base. Some people treat diet coke like a religion.

To some degree people treat oil brands like a religion. So still on topic šŸ™ƒ
