Just wanted to give everyone a heads-up on something I found with my Mach 1 that might be worth keeping an eye on.

I took my M1 in for a noise issue during deceleration and initial acceleration. The dealer diagnosed it as a lack of grease on the driveshaft — same issue another member mentioned previously.

Before bringing it in, I decided to inspect things myself and noticed the area around the drain plug was wet. On closer inspection, I found oil around the top edge of the pan on the side. Dealer says the issue is the pan gasket and it’ll need to be replaced and they can’t get to it until October.

Not thrilled about having to wait that long or the fact that they’ll need to disassemble part of the front of the car to get it done.

Might just be my car, but it could be something worth checking on yours as well.

I went through the same thing on my '22 Mach.

Oil pan replacement was required. Unfortunately, this will mean that they have to drop the front subframe. Overall, the dealer did a good job except they installed the front of the belly pan in the wrong place resulting in a sagging lower splitter. I took care of the belly pan/lower splitter myself afterward.

I was just reading through your post, makes me real nervous since it's a small-town dealer that honestly probably doesn't see many Mustangs, let alone the specialty Mustangs. Also somewhat concerned that they didn't even clean off the oil to see what happens over the month it will take to get me back in. Maybe I'm over thinking it.

The same as you, I was concerned about the process. After getting the car back, I checked over most everything and all looked fine except for the splitter. After dropping the oil pan, the Tech will have to wait overnight for the engine oil to stop dripping. Otherwise, they will not get a good seal on the gasket.

I have recently observed a half-dry oil patch around the drain plug, but it did not occur to me to attribute it to a leaking pan. Instead I thought it was a drain plug which was leaking, possibly during or after a track session due to the heat or vibrations. Saw a similar oily stain around the fill-in hole plug. So now I am curious if I should look more into it or if I missed something.

Good luck getting a conscientious technician who'll take their time (regardless of what the book time allows) to do a quality repair. It's such a crap shoot any time a dealer has to get involved in repairing your car, especially a specialty car. With all the trouble it takes to handle this repair, what about upgrading to the GT500 aluminum pan?

By chance are you using the OEM drain plug?

I'm just wondering if it's worth cleaning up all the oil then changing the O rings on the drain plug and see how it goes.

I gad a UPR and it seemed just like yours. I put a OEM on during winter. I was just under car and checked, no seeping. You can drain your oil into a clean pan and then use paint strainer funnel to filter and reinstall oil. I have heard of people creating a vacuum and then changing the plug with minimal oil loss. I think I saw that video on You Tube. Good luck

I am using the OE plug, initially I thought that might be what it was, but oil is on the side of the pan and above the plug. Since the oil level hasn’t changed since I first noticed it and the dealer didn’t clean it, I’m going to pull the belly pan, clean it and see if it comes back.

It is possible for the oil to get blown around and even build up in areas where it gets court. Big job dropping the sump , be sure it's worth it. Mine shows signs of oil around that area which I'm pretty sure it's from draining the oil and no cleaning it up properly. A little oil spreads a long way.

My 2017 had an oil pan leak at 2600 miles. I went ahead and used that as an excuse to put a better pan on it for road courses. What I found is whoever is putting the sealant on for the rear cover on the block, is getting messy with it and there is a cured glob of it right where the oil pan gasket sits. You could probably loosen the pan scrape ot of and retorque and it would be fine.

I actually pulled the belly pan, cleaned everything, and changed the filter since the dealer didn't do any of that. Today or tomorrow I'll reinspect as the oil started at the front corner near the filter.
