I _did not_ start out aggressive, but if you go there, I'm happy to oblige.
TeeLew, I'm in the Socal area too. If you want, we can meet up. You can call me daft to my face if it makes you feel better.

HB,
I see your point re: 3rd vs 2nd, but the advantage you gain keeping revs at or above 5K in general, and corner exit speed in particular, is significant when doing a hot lap. I hate having to sacrifice RPMs when the whole point of this mill is winding it out.
I'm surprised you're noticing much of a difference. What RPM range are you in? Sounded high enough that you'd be above 3500 rpm in third. Have you done both and looked at the sector times with your timer. I did something similar at COTA in Turn 1 and 11 and found that it's only faster if I nail the braking zone and shifts absolutely perfect (and then it was only worth .25 second overall). If I mishifted a tiny bit or compromised my brake zone in the slightest, I lost up to half a second.

All in all, laps are more consistently fast leaving it in third.

No problem. The first jiu jitsu lesson is always free.

When I removed the AC system, I added a cool shirt system to the car. It's absolutely killer - just throw ice in it and I am cooler in the car than an air conditioned house. After that, just need to figure out how to keep the damn car cool :)
Cool shirt system is awesome! We ran in a LeMon’s race in July and that shirt was a savior (until the ice melted).

Ok, cool! Always down to meet another SoCal owner. Which area you at? I’m in the Santa Clarita area. I don’t know how you got to Jiu jitsu, but ok.

I finally saw one at this weekends track section. So jealous of those that have it. I can’t imagine the heat of a barebones car in these 100°+ temps plus all that nomex safety gear. I thought I was suffering with T-shirt and shorts.

Well, it sounded like a threat, but I guess I was jumping to conclusions.

In a couple weeks, the Cal-Club is having an autocross in Fontana. Come out and play in CAM-C.

Nice! I was just there this past weekend at the auto club speedway for the first time with the Porsche Club. I’ve never done autocross before. You got info for Cal-Club? What’s CAM-C?

Here's Cal Club - https://www.solo2.com/

CAM-C is a kind of run-what-you-brung run class for contemporary muscle cars (Mustangs, Camaros, Hell Cats, etc.). A GT-350R should be pretty reasonable straight out of the box. Most people have to do a lot of mods to get to the point they are from the factory. The main rule in CAM is 200 treadwear tires. Beyond that it gets pretty open. It's on Sept 26-27, but If you just wanted to run on Saturday, that's a test/tune day. Legality on the tires wouldn't matter. https://www.scca.com/downloads/48152-2020-cam-handout-v3-2019-11-26/download

There are usually around 8-12 cars in the class. It should be fun.

Thanks for the link! Looking into it now. Since it’ll be my first autocross, I’m thinking of using my stock ND Miata. Don’t wanna bring out the heavyweight bruiser yet.

In an autocross, a Miata *is* the bruiser.
