Getting ready to do the first oil change on a 2021 5.0 GT. I have 10 quarts of Motorcraft 5w-20 full synthetic. Ford recommends 5W-30 synthetic blend. The car is never driven in cold weather.
If I go with the 5W-20 full synthetic I will stay with full synthetic. Any thoughts?

I've been running 5W-20 full synthetic for the full life of my 2016 GT, either Amsoil Signature or Royal Purple. When I pulled my valve covers a couple weeks ago, someone noticed irregular wear on a couple cam lobes. I sent an oil sample away for a OUA but haven't received the response yet.

I switched to 5W-30 Royal Purple, as it's pretty hot during the summer in Charleston.

I'd always go full synthetic over synthetic blend, but that's just me.

If it’s never in cold weather why go with a thinner oil, I wouldn’t I’d stay with 5-30 full synthetic if you have a boosted and or high performance engine then go even thicker like 5-40 or 5-50

Ford recommends 5W-30 synthetic blend.
For most climates, you reference Ford's recommendation.

For climates colder than -20F / -30C, Ford advises to use 0W-30.

I understand you're at the ready with 5W-20, but that deviates from spec. Unless you have mods or are pursuing a special application, I would stick with what Ford says (5W-30).

Regarding the brand and type (Full Syn versus Syn Blend), that's up to you. Whatever you decide, I think it's best to be consistent and use the same weight, brand and type for as long as you maintain the vehicle.

Mobile 1 full synthetic 5w-20, and an FL-500S Motorcraft filter for the GT for the 2017 since the first day.

You have a GDI motor so fuel oil dilution is a real thing.
5W-30
5W-40
Or I prefer 0W-40 and not because of cold climate conditions.

Why u want to go with lighter economy oil for performance engine. U might as well buy a Corolla if u want 5w20!

Thanks to all those who replied. It seems that the consensus is to go with the 5W-30, which I will do.

Wait for your timing chain slapping u will know u are crapped out with light oil!
5w-20 is what Ford states to use on the 2017 gt.

I would still do 5w-30 at least and go with 5w-40 or 5w-50 if boosted.

You can do 5w-20, it won't change anything.

I would recommend you do 5w-30 for future oil changes though, especially if you drive the car hard. I would also get the upgraded Ford Racing oil filter (bigger filter, better flow).

If you boost the car go with 5w-50.

Then you should do your own research better! I don't like to explain stupid, Google is your friend

I have a 2015 mustang gt. The recommended oil per ford is 5w-20...

Ford engineers have stated that they originally were going with 5w-30 but changed to 5w-20 for emissions. You can use either the car will be fine.

I have the upgraded Ford oil filter. The 05w-20 Motorcraft oil was sitting on the shelf. Just wanted some opinions on whether or not it should be used. I do know that Ford has changed their recommendation since 2019.
