Oil change question

One thing I did notice . . . after the oil change I was getting a much greater range in oil pressure readings.
Before the change: idle would be at 75 psi, higher revs would be at 90-100 psi.
After the oil change: idle is at 60-65 psi, higher revs are now at 110 psi.

The higher oil pressure is also something I saw since performing my oil change. Even a little higher than your seeing. I used Amsoil 5w50.

I'm going to throw this question out there, though there may be a more appropriate thread...

I'm a noob to big v8s, with my prior experience bring with i4s mostly. I have heard tell from some mechanics that anytime a motor is used for extreme duty, straight weight oils are preferred to multi-vis. First, would you more experienced guys agree that 30w or 40w oil is preferable, and if so, can you obtain it in a synthetic?

I'm going to throw this question out there, though there may be a more appropriate thread...

Use exactly what Ford says: an oil that meets Ford's WSS-M2C931-C spec. That's either Motorcraft or Amsoil 5W-50.

If you don't your engine is guaranteed to explode the second you turn the key. Ok, probably not, but Ford engineers actually know what they're doing.

Good, snug fit. And I like that it's metal, not plastic like some of the other ones I have.

Digging a bit deeper, Amsoil webpage clearly shows compliant with B.

So I had called Ford and asked if this was an issue. Rep consulted higher ups and said as long as 5-50 full synthetic was used, it would not be an issue. I have a case number as documentation if it ever came to it. But honestly think it is a non-issue. I am using Amsoil 5-50 synthetic. But according to the Ford rep I spoke to, and the higher-up they consulted, warranty-wise, any 5-50 full synthetic is acceptable.

I've got everything to change my oil this weekend. Not sure I've seen a full run down on "how-to". Anyone interested if I create a post with pictures? Anything specifically that people would like to see? I know I've seen some cut up filters posted but never really a how to on the change.

Sure, I have yet to do my first at just under 700 miles. Should be straight forward but it never hurts to have as much info as possible before tackling a job. Thanks!

Make sure that you puncture a hole in the bottom of the oil filter and drain it before you try to take it off, otherwise your in for a messy change out.

Tru 'dat......I made a mess even using the plastic bag method. Good thing I had the whole area layered in shop rags. I'll definitely drain the filter on the next oil change.

Just did mine. That is an excellent suggestion.

I did mine yesterday and yuuuuuup. Plastic bag would have been useful. I took the filter off when the oil was barely dripping out of the drain plug. As soon as I got the filter off (which was on tight as hell) my whole hand still got covered in oil. It dripped almost down to my elbow. I'll definitely have a plastic bag handy next time.

There are a lot of rotations necessary to remove the oil filter a plastic bag is awkward. I used a gallon ziplock and still made a big mess. Maybe a 2 gallon size would have worked better.
