The one I have won’t handle the flow coming from the 10 qt. surge. Looking for something with a large enough opening to get it done without a mess.

Get a Flo Tool 15 qt drain pan like this. Unscrew the funnel plug, open the vent, drain the oil, screw back in the plug, close the vent and take it to the nearest recycling place. Piece of cake. I've been using one for the past 16 years on my F250 that has 15 qts.

I made a huge mess in my garage during the first oil change. Couldn't handle the flow. Now j just unscrew the plug half way and hold it half out, let the pan fill up, then push the plug back in so the oil has time to drain into the pan, then take the plug out all the way.

Following with interest. I'm not too keen on the stealership doing my oil. I want to do it myself but I also don't want to spill any oil.

How about this one? 5 gallons, so not too likely to splash around. Also FloTool.

This isn't going to work - engines with plastic plugs have larger drain hole diameter and the flow is so high that it will overflow this immediately before oil drains inside through the hole in the pan.
I learned my lesson - ask me how....

(didn't have this exact one but very similar)

That's similar to what I use. A big tub someone suggested will be more difficult to pour back into whatever you transport the oil to be recycled in. With this or similar, you drain 10 qts into it, then use the spout to pour it back into the two now empty 5 qt jugs the new oil came in. I tend to wait to recycle until I have as many 5 qt jugs of used that I want to transport.

Read my post above why this will create nothing but a mess. 18+ have different oil pan / drain hole (larger diameter) - oil overflow that shallow surface on top of this pan before it drains inside.

Why I said "similar". Mine has a 6-8 inch egg-crate strainer in the middle in case you drop the drain plug, etc. and a screw on cap over it to seal when done. Since I pour immediately back into empty 5 qt jugs, I don't use the screw on cover for the strainer.

As for flow. I use drain valves on all vehicles, so the oil flows at the speed I want and always thru an attached hose. Minor downside of the '18+ is that type of drain valve is overprice (about double for pre '18).

FYI: Fumoto claims to be working on a valve for the 2018-19 Mustangs (and other Fords with similar plugs). Problem is they've been saying that for a long time. When they do, the advantage will almost certainly be a lower price than the competition. Ford sells so many F150s that not having a valve for them has to be painful for Fumoto.
