Must be a gold plated oil filter being installed by a mechanic with diamond encrusted tools:lol::lol:.

To put this into perspective....my first oil Chang cost £25 quid....

10 litres castrol 5-20 magnatec £20. (I got lucky on eBay)
Genuine Ford oil filter from local dealer £5

45 minutes of my time = free....

My local independent quoted £75 inc oil & filter... Which I was happy with, but fancied doing it myself..:)
Yes, need to ensure comparing oranges with oranges as some garages may be using a oil with different viscosity characteristics than others hence their price is much cheaper. It's not who's cheapest it's who is best value!
10 litres for £20 is very cheap.
Castrol EDGE TWS 10W-60 Professional Engine Oil (stuff i use for the M3) is about £20 a litre.

Like I said, I got lucky on the oil, local seller, pick up only....

My (trusted) independent, wanted £75, that was for 5w30 synthetic, plus ford oil filter...

Either way...£230 quid is bend over and pull your pants down territory:(

So, I want to have everything done at the dealers to keep warranty up. Got display message saying I need an oil change.
Asked dealer and they have come back with £232 and 1.5 hours!
Leave the dealer out of the equation. Has no bearing on the warranty. In fact Ford even has a place on their site for any owner to log the work they did themselves or had done somewhere else.

There are lots of good reasons to do you own maintenance besides cost. You may want to use better oil or filters. You may want to be sure the person doing the maintenance isn't hung over or just got demoted or just broke up with their SO or ???? You might want the person putting the oil in being sure of the right amount instead of trying to remember what this model takes among the dozens they do every day.

If you aren't super careful, or aren't experienced, or aren't likely to spot other problems that a tech might, or don't like to get your hands dirty, then have someone else do it. But don't have a dealer do it JUST because of the warranty.

Is it possible that the dealer misunderstood and that price is for a full service which includes oil and filter..... some people just say oil and filter service but mean a standard service.... if so then the price is ok.

Email chat went something like this

me - can you give me a cost for an engine oil and filter change for the Mustang please

him - yes we can arrange this for you. The cost will be £232 and take around 1.5 hours.

me - Sorry? It’s just an oil change yes?

him - Yes, the price is an inclusive price for the oil and filter change.

Me - How does it take 1.5 hours? Sorry, I will have it done but it just seems silly money to drop the oil, unscrew and screw on and oil filter and back out the workshop. I know you don’t set the prices and I know it’s a big V8 but I just don’t get it.

As yet I have not had a reply to that!

You can tell them you ONLY want oil and filter change 'til you're blue in the face but if that service isn't in the catalogue you'll get quoted the nearest thing that INCLUDES and oil & filter change. The person at the other end of the phone won't necessarily know the difference

I'd go in to the dealer or call them up and make sure you speak to someone in the service dept who actually knows what they're talking about. When I first called Evans Halshaw (a FordStore, so surely prices should be the same for you?) I spoke to a vacuous young girl who clearly struggled to tell one end of a pen from the other, never mind a Mustang from a Fiesta. I was forced to spend 5 or 10 minutes having a tortuous conversation about wanting an oil and filter change; the only reply I kept getting to my question was 'we can't do just an oil and filter change, you have to have a complete service - but your car isn't due for a service so we can't do anything' (unbelievable!). Eventually I persuaded her to go and find someone in charge and ask them - which she did and that's when I got the £120 quote. So it's worth making sure that whoever you're dealing with does actually know - however vaguely - their a:censored:se from their elbow! :)

That doesn't say that at all. It says you need documentation of parts and fluids used. The problem wasn't using a 3rd party; it was that the 3rd party didn't document or used the wrong parts/fluids.
It doesn't say you can do a DIY job on it and still not have issues with the warranty as you said in your original post. The fact they'll ask for the smallest of detail to honour a warranty shows that they're looking for any excuse to void it. Even if you obtain all the precise info that they'll require, it may not be to their exact requirements, for example viscosity of oil used.
Horses for courses but I couldn't be bothered with the ball ache to save a few quid.

Okay. He got back to me.
Ford asks for a 30 point inspection to be carried out at the same time as the oil and filter change.
I will ask for the list. I don't want warranty issues so as long as the list looks genuine, I will have it done.

But surely Ford themselves pay for the cost of that (if anyone does) ? You should just pay for the work you want doing. If Ford want something else doing on top, I can't see why you, or indeed any of us, should be paying for the extra time taken to do that.
