I have downloaded the sync update 22000 over the wifi but have yet to drive 3+ hours to perform the nav maps update, does the map update need to be completed before I can download the 22251 sync update and does the new sync update also have a map update included with it.

BD
I updated maps on 22000 (in our case F11) then did 22251 today. Maps is independent of either version in UK

Vice versa and no.

The last maps update I did took less than an hour using Ford's thumb drive ($40, I couldn't get it to work downloading to my thumb drive; I think I did something wrong).

Ok do not fully understand your answer, vise versa meaning what exactly. I am not paying 40 bucks for any map update as I have the update on thumb drive just don't drive a long enough distance to allow map update to complete on a regular basis, maybe once or twice a year.

The NA 2.21 update takes under an hour regardless of whose thumb drive you use. The files are the same. The Sync version doesn’t matter but it doesn’t hurt to have the latest.

I thought I read in this thread earlier that some found the nav update could take up to 3 1/2-4 hours to complete. I may have misread or misunderstood. I can handle an hour drive time more frequently.

If I recall the update is in three sections. After about 20 minutes you will get a screen telling you to reboot. Do nothing as this happens on its own. It then does this again. Once again do nothing, it will continue on its own. Then you get the final screen telling you the update is complete.

I know the sync update only took less than an hour to complete by Wi-Fi from my house. When I did the sync and nav update in my 2019 edge it took the nav update over 2 hours of driving to complete luckily, we were on a trip to the in laws that is 4 hours away.

My understanding is if the nav update does not complete before the car is shut off then it must start all over from the beginning again. Correct?

"does the map update need to be completed before I can download the 22251 sync update"

Vice Versa == other way around

Per the Ford update page--that's what I snipped--the Sync update has to be done before the Maps update. Will it work the other way? No idea, but the updates are tricky enough already.

No, the install will pickup where it left off. No need to go for a 2 hour trip.

Not my point. I only bought Ford's drive because I pooched the download to a generic drive (every drive meeting a particular USB spec will perform the same). I think I screwed-up because I downloaded the .zip file to a disk drive; it needs to go directly to the thumb drive.

I just mentioned that so someone else wouldn’t think there was a difference.

By the way Sync updates on Mac download to the hard drive first. Not sure what the inferior Windows does. :cwl::like:
