I used the Google speed test. It wasnt wifi. Scouts honour.
This was using home wifi. Server is Washington.

This test was wifi off. Service where I live is terrible. Server is Atlanta.

By the way, why aren’t you using the Speedtest app. There will be loss going though your web browser. Also do the tests with a “clean” phone. Manually close all apps and turn your phone off and then back on. All these things matter.

The download speed test is a lot like putting two slightly different cars on two different dynos in two different locations, with different weather conditions and different dyno operators and correction factors.

Unless you live in a major metropolis area, odds are that your actual download speeds with cell connection are much slower than you think. Not to mention that even true "unlimited" data plans start capping download speeds after a certain number is exceeded.

True download speeds are dependent on your connection, your ISP (Cellular or otherwise) connection to the internet, then add in DNS servers and the actual connection to where you are downloading files from.

Ping to the server your downloading from is almost always more relevant than your actual download speeds where your are.

Many times, the source of the files you are downloading are throttled based on the number of downloads at any given time as well.

Regardless of how fast your connection is, regardless of how fast your "available" download speed is - you are at the mercy of the connection from your ISP to the server / connections linking you to the source of where you are downloading files from and then further you are limited by the source of the files and how they handle simultaneous downloads.

A good example of this...I was downloading a PS4 game a while back. Via powerline adapter connection I was only getting 35mb down. Wireless a tick less. Brought the PS4 downstairs and plugged it directly into my router. Max download speed of the same files / source started at 300mb+ then in a few minutes was down to a bit under 100mb.

Tried the same download again at 5am. 800mb+ and it never varied much from that speed. I was curious, so I tried the same download again using the powerline adapter. Right at max advertised speed of 250mb.

That’s exactly why I use my Ethernet connected Mac Mini (at 300/300) to download the files and then copy to USB. Knocks out 90% of the variables.

lol Same here. We should have the updates finished in the next month or so :)

The car keeps trying to update. Well it finished another download last night. Looks like I got the latest Gracenotes. Big freaking whoop.

I haven't noticed this particular map file that is being downloaded being available on the Ford site yet. After updating to the latest sync, the new map files began downloading.

Yeah, I do not get that either. Unless they released OTA before putting it on the site. I guess we will just have to wait until your download is complete to see what you have.

Wifi for mine sucks. I have gigabit and great speeds in the driveway where the car sits. I cut all that off after the first try. Whenever there is a new update, download to USB that night, plug in and let it update on the drive to work.

It started downloading the day after my Sync downloaded and updated. It took two days and still shows another download.

Say what, Willis? Where'd you get that?

Ford just told me that version is not yet available. I'm confused.

Yes, there is a big disconnect on this one. So far there are two of us, that have gotten the downloads after updating Sync.

Sometimes Ford releases an update OTA before it's put on the website. James is also getting it for free even though he used his one freebie already. He must be a very special person. :giggle:
