Hi all, so happy to have found this website. My wife purchased a 2019 GT PP1 after 20+ years of waiting to buy her dream pony car. The car is fantastic, velocity blue with Shelby stripes, red recaro interior, h-pipe, but has PP2 wheels. We purchased from a Ford dealer who replaced the Sport Cup 2 tires with Falkens, but wouldn’t listen to me about the size. I wanted them to put 305/35/R19 rear and 295 fronts to match the stock PP1 tire diameter as closely as possible. However, they argued the PP2 wheel always run 305/30R19 in a square setup. Although we ended up with brand new tires which is great, they went with the 30 series tires and now the speedo is out around 6%, and the wheel gap sucks.
I’ve called around locally to price new tires for the rear to correct speedo, but the 305/35R19 seems very hard to find. I ended up calling a fairly local mustang specialty shop that is well known here in the Toronto are, and they suggested to just buy an SCT tuner for the obvious performance gain and to correct tire size that way until the current tires wear out.
We are also noticing very quickly how the poke on the PP2 setup is ruining the paint! I’ve ordered some ABS sheet and am going to make my own splash guards, but would like some opinions on what experienced owners have done on here.
My thoughts are:
1) buy the tuner and correct speedo (cheaper that relaxing tires now)
And eventually lower the car to remedy wheel gap with the 30 series tires

or

2) swap wheels/tires out completely to lose the poke, decrease the wheel gap and fix the speedo

thoughts?

Did you buy a PP1 with PP2 wheels? Or, a true PP2? OEM tires on a PP2 are 305/30/19 on all four corners.

OEM tires on a PP1 are 275/40/19 (R) and 255/40/19 (F).

I bought a PP1 that came with a PP2 wheel/tire setup. It’s not a PP2 car, just the wheelset and 305/30R19 on all four corners.

Have the dealer fix the Speedometer problem or Sell all the tires and get 295/35s

Dealer can’t flash a car anymore I didn’t think? They won’t do anything about the tires. Just looking for neat fox on my end.

I am no expert when it comes to cars. Alas, I am merely stating what I would consider.
To me, it seems with Option 2, more would be gained, based on what you are trying to achieve.

I would be curious to know, why on earth the dealership would not comply with the request for said tyres. Back in January, I walked away from a deal because the dealer (and I have worked with them for 15 years), would not comply to my request. I was already in the finance room. I told my Missus, we're leaving.

Within minutes the Manager was phoned, and agreed to my request. Sometimes, you really have to dare them. Albeit, I do also understand that your request was for a 'dream car', and that particular opportunity may not have came across your path again...

car look great!
Funny I walkd away from a deal on pickup day(a few months ago) cause dealer wouldn't comply with some issues that needed correction.
Im surprised they could sell a car with the speedo off. State inspection would be mentioned first.

Do you/your wife want to keep the PP2 wheels?
If you're not attached to them then perhaps try to find someone with PP1 wheels who wants to trade. Or buy a set, put the tires you want on them and sell what you have to recoup some of the difference.
To me, none of the other options seem attractive.

I'd keep the square setup and if I didn't like the wheel gap I'd get some lowering springs.

The car will fix the speedo on its own you don’t have to do anything but drive it. As for the paint use clear bra. 305/35/19 come in only like 4 tires nitto nt555g2 being the cheapest at around $275. I run 305/35/19 all the way around

Can you elaborate on the self correcting speedo? I’ve read that a couple of places, but couldn’t make sense of it. That wheel/tire combo has been in the car for sometime, and we have out about 1000miles on it since bringing it home, and the speedo is still off.

Those are definitely OEM PP2 wheels. The speedo will not correct itself. Mine is the same 3 years and 20K later. Have you verified your speed with a gps? I track right at 3-4 mph off at 65-70 mph. Not sure if you are A10 or M6, but you’re getting about a 3.94 gear ratio running those 305/30/19’s. Going 305/35/19 might be enough to feel in the butt dyno, particularly if you’re M6.

Curious if you’ve noticed any rubbing on the front fender wells as a true PP2 has different front fender linings than a PP1 to accommodate the wide front tires and offset. I’m planning on going 315/30/19 and 305/30/19 PS4S this next go around.

Thanks for the reply. The dealer said they didn’t see any evidence of rubbing which is why they were adamant of sticking with the 305/30 and not “upgrading” to the 305/35 as requested by me. After calling around to many tire shops locally and finding literally zero 305/35/R19 options, I bit the bullet and ordered an SCT Tuner this morning to correct speedo and throw the 91 Octane Tune in it for fun, as either way it was cheaper than buying a pair of tires at minimum. I may consider lowering the car over the winter and just sticking with the tires we have already assuming the lowering won’t cause any rubbing.

The car is a 6MT btw and we did check the speedo against our phone GPS and it was about 6% too fast which for us suck because it’s adding more onto our odometer than we are actually travelling. Not something you want for warranty.
