I was spoiled by my M235. BMW gave me 5 years of free map updates and they downloaded in the background and installed automatically while I driving.
I agree, BMW does this really well. If it weren't for run flat tires, I'd likely buy another one. I hated the run flats on my 2016 BMW 435i.

My tracking number shows 6 July from CA to GA. Maybe someone else will get their's sooner and report.

etc.

I'm just waiting for somebody here to load the Ford $40 USB, and see if it also shows version 1.18, or the correct one (1.19).

so, i redownloaded the files.. twice. three times total, same error message now "installation failed error code: MEM_ERR01" and says "download files again and retry to install."

called the phone number listed in the error message, talked with a nice lady who escalated my case to someone higher up, which will call me back in 1-3 business days to help me through the process/troubleshoot my issues.

i wonder if something got corrupted when the car shut off during the attempted update the first time :(

Unfortunately, yes, it is possible. That's why they are so adamant about telling us not to let the car idle. A couple of things to do. Try a master reset of Sync3. Pull the battery cable and wait for a short period of time. Last resort is going to the dealer.

:headbang::facepalm: no info system should be this difficult to update
I cannot tell you how many times over the years I've had issues with updating Windows on PC's. I use a Mac now and no longer have these issues. Updating a computer in a car poses even more risks. It is what it is. Maybe we should go back to the old SD card.

I know this is going to sound crazy but worth a try. Put the files on a different usb drive that has been formatted to eFAT. Remove ground cable from battery for a free min, as suggested and give it one more try.

If
you are using a USB that previously had something on it, do not chose fast format. Go with the full format.

It's amazing what is left behind when those 1s and 0s are waiting to be written over vs completely wiped away.

thanks for the input!

ive thought about pulling battery cable, master reset of sync, and the dreaded trip back to the dealer.. in that order if it comes to that. its something i'll probably end up doing this weekend, of course being a holiday weekend, i'll have some extra time.

im also wanting to try another drive.. i dont have any other ones laying around here, so i got another one coming from amazon.. i dont feel like chancing it in walmart or target.. seems the crazies are out everywhere lately

hoping the support guys call back with some other options before then.

wade: Exact reason I just bought the USB stick from Ford. Had all kinds of issues trying to use my own downloaded files, except I was getting err3. My USB from Ford shipped yesterday it appears.

His issue wasn't the USB; it was that the process was aborted, so the same could have happened with a Ford USB stick.

Hey Wade, no need for another USB stick. Just do a FULL format, which will take a while. That wipes out everything, so the system won't recognize it anymore. The problem could be the files. If you still have the zip file, erase your previous extraction, and extract it again. Oh, and also do a master reset. Hopefully it'll work. Good luck, and keep us posted.

Ah, yeah I left mine cranked in the garage while I attempted the updated. First time I did it in aux mode and the car shut off.

actually i found 2 unused 16gig from a past project.. it was in a bag never used.. after making a new USB drive, i ran out to the car to try.. same error with a different USB drive.

i bet this is on the car side.. and i'll probably have to master reset. i just have this gut feeling that when the engine shut off, something got corrupted in the "temp dir" or something like that.. who knows, it could be a number of things. i have a suspicion and i have actually been thinking about it more, and i will probably do a master reset before tech support contacts me back, its kind of a PITA but whatever, nothing i cant setup again. ive done it once already shortly after i purchased it.
