My wife and I have talked about this very subject. It's interesting how society has gravitated to a sea of blah colors as the norm for a car.
I got avalanche grey for my F150 specifically because it never looks dirty. the car was absolutely filthy when i got it (sitting on the lot for MONTHS) and ya just couldn't really tell. I love it.

also, solid colors are much easier to touch up

super badass pearl metallics are a huge pain the butt to match even when brand new sometimes and forget about it once that sucker has been sitting in the sun for a few years.

Based on the amount of comments and questions I get on my fighter jet grey I would not classify it as boring, uninspired or not worthy of attention based on the conversations I have about it.

it's just the current fad. It might age gracefully or look stupid in a few years. Enjoy whatever color gets the blood flowing for you.

For comparison I LOVE white on bmw's so you can have a love for the different and respect the mundane 🤷🏻‍♂️

I work in bronco/ranger paint, and with the exception of a beautiful red

It’s tan, brown, white, greenish brown, a very “operation desert storm” color palette this year.
Fun thing I heard about Operation Desert Storm,
that I would never have heard if I didn't marry an Army brat:

My father-in-law had been a Lt.Colonel or something in an armor division that got sent from Germany to Saudi Arabia for the 1991 operation.

They fought in the desert with olive green tanks, and woodland camo BDUs. Desert uniforms and paint didn't get to all the troops quickly enough,
so I guess the Army solution was to send the reporters to the units that looked right,
and keep cameras away from the green tanks.

Dad said that when they talked to captured some Iraqis, the Iraqis had thought this was some elite unit that didn't care if the enemy saw them coming. Like they were Red Barons of the desert or something.

They got their desert uniforms, and got their tanks repainted, in time for the victory parade in Germany. :giggle:

EDIT: Some pictures of green stuff in Desert Storm made it onto the internet. 😯

I don't know if this pic is from Desert Storm, but dang if it ain't a dark green tank in a sun-bleached desert:

What do you guys think about the new Muted car colors that are showing up everywhere?
Myself I own a 2024 GT Premium in Iconic Silver. As far as I am concerned they just are plain ugly. Most look like High School Gym or Hall Lockers and then there is the Tool Box gray, and workbench Gray. Give me a break. The Rapid red was my 2020 I traded for the 2024.

I love Iconic and ordered it but they forgot my HPP so ended up with Black.

Muted colors are popular because they refl ct current costco clone wear clothing colors people want to be invisible.
functional is not stupid.

flat colors in theater serve a tactical purpose because you don't want blinged out shiny stuff giving away your position :D
Maybe in the old days now a sat can pinpoint heat signature to a 2 yard accuracy and drones finish it off.

Washed out clone wear and dull colors permeate society it's neither smart or stupid just personal taste. Most people like them because looks clean when dirty.

I have to say I have a love/hate relationship with the color on mine. DMG does not stay clean, it doesn't really show off the lines of the car, Ford could have dropped "Matter" from the name and left it just "Dark Gray."

With that said, I don't see many DMG mustangs around my area, so there's that.

I believe the OP is talking about the new “flat” colors, not blacks/whites vs yellows/reds?
Yes, I think so. Those dullish looking pastel type colors are kind of "uhh". I started seeing them first on the Toyotas, that dull gray was awful and they seem to make all the other colors with that same appearance.

Then again, it really doesn't matter what paint is on it; it's the machine underneath the paint that matters and where the fun is all about.

Not a fan of matte finish vehicles, I like shiny objects. Preferably metallics.

As far as color, I pick boring silver almost every time when it comes to a daily driver in Minnesota. Hides dirt and crud better than anything else, even in winter. Fun cars get color.

I really wanted Ruby Red when I ordered my '15, but picked Magnetic for stealth factor and ease of touchup. I got my red fix on the inside.

Silver, White, very light pastel greys and metallic red are my favorite just because they look clean when dusty or dirty. Matt's are fine on boring bodies but ruin sculptures like Mustang, and some Italian and German cars.

I even had one car painted in Jaguar silver really made it's curves pop.

Better just to pay for stealth radar and Lazer countermeasures than pay for matt IMO.

I’ve never really picked the color of my vehicles. Always go best deal first. Have to say the grabber yellow has grown on me. Shines through dirt and I no longer need light bulbs in the garage. My daughters hate it though. They love the muted colors.
