Morning Gents,

I had somebody inspect my new arrival for me as I am unable to due to being out of the country, he is in the detailing business so obviously has a keen eye and is very particular.
Anyway, he sent me the following photos, some points I agree with, but others could be debated, how far do you go?
On one hand, it is a new car so it should be perfect worth no minor defects whatsoever, but wheres the cutoff? What is being too fussy?
The dealer is being a bit difficult and telling me to get it detailed first and then they will agree on what is to be replaced after but I don't agree with this as it should have nothing to do with them if it''s getting detailed or not and I have told them this.
Piccys -

Top and bottom of front splitter, in my opinion this should be replaced -

Rear Offside arch scratch, this will polish out -

Rear Decklid alignment, I'll be changing this for a GT one anyway -

Rear Bumper Alignment -

Rear window alignment, doesn't look too bad, I could live with this I think -

Drivers door trim scuff, this would annoy I think -

Drivers seat scuff, not really noticeable -

Odd dimples on both side skirts, I presume due to a moulded bracket on the back side, do others have this? Not noticeable IMO -

The splitter and the driver's door trim would piss me off the most. That mark on the trim looks like it has cut through to the second layer. I'd be pressing for a replacement of both. (Those splitters aren't cheap btw).

As for the deck lid panel - that misalignment is caused by a misalignment of the boot itself. It has been a very common issue ever since the first 2015 models started hitting US dealerships. It is usually accompanied by the right hand side of the boot lid standing slightly proud of the rear quarter. Changing the panel is not going to have any marked effect on those gaps as there is no ability to adjust the panel itself.

I don't think you are being fussy at all. (Good thing that you've got it documented prior to delivery. They would otherwise wipe their hands of it as soon as you drove from the lot).

Good luck!

All of those TBH.

I would certainly be looking to get something because of the splitter and the door trim but the panel alignment is as bad on pretty much all of them.
Yeah, that's what I was thinking. If they re-align the boot lid, replace the splitter and did the door trim I would be happy enough.
I do have a slight concern about introducing rattles in the door trim after disturbing it though, is it worth the risk?

Splitter is totally unacceptable and should be replaced. looks like they've scraped it at some point during transit.

Door trim looks like someone has assisted the doors opening with their foot. I would seek replacement too.

Alignment issues - the trunk is pretty bad and I've the same with the rear bumper which I've decided to live with (calling it a quirk of american 'quality').

Welcome to Ford ownership. I've yet to see a "good" one.

Fwiw, they're all a bit shoddy! I had a scratch on the roof from dealer monkey wiping off dust plus a 3" mark near the drivers door handle from the packing material. Although they agreed to repaint the door I decided against it on a brand new car and couldn't be arsed with the hassle.

TBH, after owning ~10 new cars I've given up trying to keep a car immaculate - just an impossibility if you use it and park it anywhere. No amount of paint protection and polishing will stop it! Within reason, makes fuck all difference to trade in value either

the bargain price = poor alignment = im okay with it

Everything else. Hell no, Its a new car. It should be spotless.

Im going to go armed with a powerful white light to see any and all defects in the car as well as a UV light to make sure people haven't been eating/flicking boogers in the car etc

I will be informing my dealer not to clean the car or remove ANY protective wraps. Ill remove them myself and inspect.

Not sure i understand the reason for that? As it's probably harder to detect any scratches or defects on a dirty car than a clean one?

because the dealer sandpaper monkeys make it even worse at least if you strip it and wash it down properly yourself you've only got shipping marks to deal with rather than it being wet flatted down everywhere by them.

I will be doing the same.. leave EVERYTHING on it, even the dirt.

We must remember, the guys who strip and clean these cars are probably on minimum wage and get a bonus for how many they do per day? They will not be taking much care with your pride and joy and will more than likely mark it in some way or another?

I also want to carefully remove the window sticker and laminate it, because I'm sad..

As for the damage pictured here, I would accept the misalignment issue, the windows and the scratch on the arch if it'll polish out. As for the door trim and splitter I would tell them to get you new replacements and you'll fit them your self, then stick with the scratched ones, mindful of the fact that you've got brand new replacements for when you scratch them.. which will happen.

If they make it worse or leave scratches which will be easier to spot when clean then they'll have to rectify it. Everyone to their own i suppose

I was lucky in as much as (according to the detailer) the only mark on the car was a small scratch on the splitter in the same place as the first pic...curiously.
I also wasn't about to hand over ÂŁ35k for a car covered in 5000 miles of crud and wrapping, though I completely understand the viewpoint of those that do. I guess Peoples in Edinburgh are either a little better than other dealers or I got a new sponge ;)
As regards the OP marks the bottom of the splitter looks like its been kerbed and i'd push for a replacement along with the door card. It's a good suggestion asking for supply only but not sure they'll go for it. Panel alignment i'd probably have a go at myself and any marks that can be polished out or you can live with I would leave well alone. It could get a lot worse...

EDIT: You're Macrae and Dick in Perth? I've used them for the recall and servicing and my experiences have been largely good.
