new car no working AC

How would you deal with this.

i bought a new 2022 mustang Gt premium in April 2023. the dealership said they did a PDI and nothing was wrong. some things wrong - tear in driver seat, missing door handle trim, missing locking wheel nut that came with safety package and no AC.

well the AC blows hot air since there is a leak in the system. seems to me like they missed a major problem and i don't believe they did a PDI since it was a new vehicle.

they are giving me the runaround for over 7 weeks and i still dont have a working AC. Summer is coming and it is hot in there. they got 1 part in to fix it but it was the wrong one. the original was missing a rubber gasket from the factory which created the leak. seems like a Ford issue more than dealership but neither really gives a rats A$$ about this.

I live in Canada so we have no rights when i comes to lemon laws or anything. So basically we a SoL for these things.

The dealership you're currently working with has already taken their profit. They don't want to work with you because it's costing them money. In addition, warranty work doesn't pay the same as repair (out of warranty work).

Cut your losses and frustration with the current place and try another dealer. Afterwards, post a one-star review of the original dealer, how their inspection program is questionable, while their after-sales support was non-existent.

Ford, like many manufacturers, continues to struggle with supply chain and replacement parts issues. The last time I was at my local dealer, they had pages of items they were attempting to source from any other dealer, and could not.

Yes you can! Sometimes you have to be rather forceful with dealerships, especially with types like these.

I would tell your service advisor "If the car is not fixed by the end of next week I will be taking the car to another dealership. If the car is still in piece I will be sending you the bill for the tow truck to the other dealership."

That should get the ball rolling and don't be afraid to walk in there and literally threaten to get the law involved. No dealership has the right to string you along like this not to mention sell you a broken car. I would also like to suggest you look into legal action with this dealership, as the issues you are experiencing with your car should have been acknowledged and brought to your attention through the PDI. If you can prove that they didn't or just performed a bad one you should ask for your money back.

I get that, i work in that department and some parts are 1+year, mostly computer chips. But we are not allowed to us it as an excuse anymore.

Plus the mustang has been using the same (roughly) parts for 6+ years so there should be parts out there.

@Jstang23 i already asked for a copy of the PDI and they cannot produce it but they did say it was done.

I live in Ontario, Canada and we have OMVIC which is useless but at least they will call the dealership and ask for my PDI money back plus compensation. I also contacted Ford complaint and they will look into it as well (probably nothing from that end). I was also provided with a lawyer from my local mustang club and he will look into what could be done.

In short, the manager of the dealership told me to pound salt and he will do nothing about it. Have it in a email.

I dont want the return the car since i like it and actually wanted the exact color (plus you cant get grabber blue anymore in Canada on 22/23), i just want my damn car back in working condition with some compensastion....

I hear you, but there will always be another car you can get. They made a ton of mustangs and I'm the same way but in your position I would honestly be worried about what will go bad if these things are already going bad on your 2022.

If you have the email receipts and the dealership cannot produce a PDI copy then it wasn't done and you can sue them for a good bit of compensation. I'm not saying it will be easy but the lawyer should help you out a lot!

Sorry OP about your troubles but as someone who also lives in Ottawa I know there are some crappy dealerships locally. Good idea getting help from your Mustang club.

Campbell ford is where i got mine. they are big sponsors of the club but they have let me and other down with our mustangs. Never again

Just to give an update on the car.

it seems the issue goes right back to the factory when it was built. the 2 pictures below explain it. the first one is the 2 shiny pieces are, there is supposed to be a rubber gasbket there. they never was any. therefore the high presure of the system made it leak over time. when they called ford to get a part, they questioned it because this is a part that does not usually fail since it is a factory part installed at the start of the ac system. the whole system had to be taken apart.

the second picture is the actual part number.

So i have an axe to grind with Ford now, not the dealer. anybody know how to preceed with Ford. I called their customer service and put a complaint and they said they will get back to me but well see.
also, what else is wrong with my vehicle if this part went missing during production.

They can’t get a couple o-rings and get you back on the road? I can’t understand why the dealer would hold up your car over some o-rings that can be sourced elsewhere if ford is unwilling for some reason.

Ford said because it came from factory like that, it needed a new part not a o ring fix.

took 7 weeks for the part.
