New 2.3 EcoBoost introduced today

I talked to one of the engineers today at the press briefing about this engine and he told me that while they don't have numbers yet (it's tuning for worldwide consumption, mixing emissions, mileage, drivability, and performance requirements until they get the right mix... and the car doesn't go on sale until fall 2014 anyway) the torque curve will be very typical of all EcoBoost engines - a very broad and flat curve, from very low in the RPM range on up. That's why this isn't the base engine, it has everything over the 3.7 V-6 - more HP, and torque the V-6 can never match.

Dirk, I also had a MazdaSpeed6, and from what I've heard this one will far outpace that one - good as it was.

The intercooler goes to just the lower side of the bumper, the picture is misleading. But you should see the tiny intercooler that came stock. Pathetic.
I live near Cobb and have watched their ST efforts come together over the past year (I have a few pics on my site). I haven't asked them, but given their efforts with Ford to date (very successful with both STs), I would be surprised if they aren't planning on taking a look at the Mustang EcoBoost.

Haha - its funny I also have owned a Mazdaspeed 6 myself. Modded it to hell too! Ive owned so many turbo cars in the past 10 years and I will own the new turbo mustang. I believe the aftermarket support for a turbo mustang will be HUGE!

Only problem is "rs" was used by Chevrolet for a Camaro model in the 1970s. Were Ford to use that designation for a Mustang, they would be accused of ripping off Chevy.

ST would be a proper designation for Mustangs with the 2.3 Ecoboost (even though Toyota used it for a Celica trim level back in the day).

Yeah RS will never be used stateside but perfectly acceptable in Europe. I don't think we will ever see a Mustang ST either. Doesn't even sound right to me.

After thinking about it, what will probably come is the Mustang SVT with the 2.3 turbo. That sounds rather good to me, ole chap.

SVT only deals with low volume mustangs, I'm willing to bet that Ford would love for the EB to outsell the v6.

I think the ST fits nicely with the GT. While Ford wants to pay homage to the past, it's also important that they branch out and create new traditions. An EB 4 banger is the right opportunity to do that!

We got the EVOs front end, which is used in various ways in every single model save for the F150. Why would ST being used by Focus and Fiesta stop Ford? We already know they want to bring a more "corporate" approach to their models and the Mustang's front end wasn't spared.
