It's job is to sell a ton worldwide, it will be the sales leader. Ford finally learned several years ago to focus on selling models other than the GT, that there is a market for moderately powered cars and especially when they are loaded up with the *full* range of options. There have been so many Foxes, SN95s, and early S197s that had the base engine, but no options were available - and no emotion or attraction. Nothing special, thin margin, clear 'em off the lot type of cars.

And the 2.3EB is an economy oriented engine, but will have enough to make for an engaging driving experience.
It's job is not to "split the power difference" with the GT, because then it will be "enough" and take a chunk out of GT sales and mileage will be poor.
And it's job is to contribute enough to CAFE - which like it or not the Mustang has to do much better with. 54.5 is coming, it's hard, and even the 2.3ETB won't make enough of a contribution towards that in the longer term.

That'll be a little disappointing if true. I was really hoping for at least 320/320, if only to further separate it from the 3.7
What do you mean, "..further separate it from the 3.7" ..?

Even if it had the exact specs as the V6, it would be a better engine, due to the fact it has 100Ft-lbs more of torque at 1,500rpms..

Again, it does not matter if it is 312tq, or 320tq. It still has more TQ than the V8 up until around 3k. Understand, it is not about actual specs, but the actual powerband.

Lastly, not sure how a 2.3 liter producing 310 hp is disappointing.

Maybe separate it more in terms of 0-60 times. And MPG's will separate it enough. It is also a turbo and that alone will probably do more for it than any of the specs. Turbo cars are the Marketing Craze right now. It has half the liters but moarrr powaaa!

And maybe disappointing because it'll take more than a tune to beat the GT lol at least in a straight line.

0~60 only matter at the strip.

On the paved roads & surface streets, claimed numbers don't do the driver any good, you have to contend with skill.

True but does the general public really care? no not really, they just want to know which has the faster published times. Which the EB4 will be faster than the 6er.

EB>v6

Lighter & stronger engine.
Lol I think you have me all wrong. I'm agreeing with you in all my posts. And my previous post is definitely a statement :D

Me and DivineStrike are agreeing with all of you that it's the better motor, but the general public are idiots. I know people that would buy the 3.7 because "it's the bigger engine." People are stupid. If the 3.7 stays at 305/280 and the 2.3EB is rated 310/312, Many people will only see a 5 horsepower bump and wonder if it's worth the extra money.

Of course it would be worth it, but from a marketing standpoint I'd think they'd want more power just for advertising reasons.

The other side of that though is, MPG's makes a big difference in advertising. Even being a slightly faster and more powerful engine, if the efficiency is as good as their hoping they'll be able to market it better than the v6. And like I said just saying turbo gets the general public's attention now. Most people will take the slight premium of the eb4 over the v6 to say they have the latest and greatest. Also, for those that are concerned with engine size would more than likely get the v8. Not that big of a deal now a days comparing a turbo v6 to turbo4. They are better off I think squeezing out as many mpg's as they can vs making it that much more powerful than the v6. I don't think it matters too much if it's 5 or 15 hp more than the v6. 30hp or more though would sway people more.

umm isn't that FWD? Bad enough torque steer in a 180hp fusion what are you doing to mitigate that? omg but have fun :)

On topic, I think the V6 is still a great option if you prefer instant throttle response. I would have to drive the new EB in the Mustang first to judge, but I can see people that don't wish to mod/tune being fine with a cheaper V6 that has more predictable throttle response which is one big reasons I prefer the V8.

Yeah, I'm curious about that as well. I found torque steer bad enough on my old 190hp Mitsu Eclipse Turbo. Can't imagine putting 3x that much power through the front wheels.

Supposedly the design and configuration of the twin-scroll turbo in the EB goes a long way toward improving throttle response (i.e., minimizing turbo lag). I've never driven an Ecoboost vechicle, nor do I know if there any changes that are specific to the Mustang that would make it perform differently compared to existing EB vehicles. My sights are set on the GT, so I haven't followed the finer details of the EB's motor quite as closely. Others probably can comment on that.

What size turbo are you running? A Focus ST will probably be my next DD and I plan to mod it to hell once the warranty is up.
