Having a trade discredits any pricing structure you may think you got. But as long as you're happy
Peace
I didn't have a trade, they bought out my lease. What in the world are you talking about? The $48k was negotiated prior to them evaluating the buyout of my lease, if I include the extra ~$400 I got from that then I actually got it down to $47.6 post tags/title/doc/destination. The ~$400 was sent as a check which I received just this morning ($389).
Who knows? Maybe the mere ~$400 I received after them buying out my residual and final few payments is a lot of money in your book, which somehow "discredits" the negotiated price of the 2019 that was unchanged by said buyout.

slightly off topic, but how long was the time in transit from flat rock to atl?
It shipped from Flat Rock on Oct 6, 2016 at 1600 ET and arrived at Atlanta on Oct 12 2016 at 1721 ET. So, 6 days.

The dealership can see the progress of the order and print out a record of every action performed as the order progresses. I had them print out the complete production history of my order at the time of purchase. It covers everything from order submittal to arrival at the dealership. It's a neat thing to have.

Its unlikely that what i ordered will show up before my order, especially since Magneride cars are scarce. If the exact car DOES happen to show up before my order is delivered, I can still buy it and walk away from the order. If not, I know for sure i'll get one when my order is delivered. Sitting around waiting with my fingers crossed doesn't guarantee I'll find the car I want, an order does.

If you don't like the idea of doing a custom order, don't do it, nobody cares. Why should you care if somebody else does?

Why would you care if I don't? I just gave my opinion. Don't get your feelings hurt by it.

Why I'll never understand why anyone has to factory order a Mustang. There's a zillion on the lot around me and you save a ton buying off the lot.
The only car you factory order is something like a BMW, Audi, or Porsche to avoid paying for several thousands in options (as in $10K+) that only ordering can avoid in most dealerships.
Probably because what you see around you isn't what everybody else sees. The stealerships around me only order a specific configuration and maybe veer from that for a few cars so if you want what you want you dealer locate or order direct.

Yes, like all the mustangs on the lot have black interiors! When I was searching for a Royal Crimson GT Premium, some of the dealers didn't even know there was also a tan/black and ceramic/black interior. I had no choice except to factory order my RC to get tan/black.

You don't want Ceramic (at least fabric) for a daily driver...too white.

It would be awesome if Ford offered Tan on all interior surfaces as an option...

Never, ever do this thing that a lot of people have done and enjoyed. It will make you miserable, unless you happen to really enjoy it. In which case there's something wrong with you. But you're happy.

Obviously if you're not particular about options or color you can get a better deal waiting for maximum incentives and discounts and then pouncing on it. Not saying that you can't bargain a pretty good deal on an ordered car - you're just somewhat at the mercy the market conditions when your car happens to show up.

Ordering a car exactly the way you want it can be a great experience. But it's not for everyone. Could it be better? Of course, but Ford's got plenty of bigger problems right now. In five years we may have so few options that custom ordering will be a moot point.

Some things you can do to get yourself on the "great experience" side:
  • Make sure you order from a dealer that does enough volume to have allocation. Someone's suggestion to look at Shelbys as an indicator is probably good.
  • Make sure you know where you are in the production cycle of the model year you're ordering. Ordering at the either the very beginning or the very end can lead to long delays or cancellation.
  • Sales people, even those placing orders, can be surprisingly ignorant about major factors that can affect how long your car will take. If you read the information in the order section here you will know more than most sales people.
  • Don't order a car if you're under time constraints or can't be patient. Many of the things that can delay your order are unpredictable and outside of anyone's control - supply constraints, plant shutdowns, shipping delays. Don't do it if you can't enjoy the anticipation as part of the experience.
  • Make sure that you're ordering something you can afford with X-plan as your worst case deal. Or be willing to walk away and start over.
  • Make sure that you're ordering something that you can afford in a worst case scenario for your trade value. Before your delivery date take your trade to CarMax to get an offer on it so you know the worst case. Or sell it yourself. Or be willing to walk away and start over.
Happy ordering. Or not, as you please.

OP, as you can see ordering a car is a waste of time unless you have multiple vehicles in your household and have something else to drive while you wait. On top of my car taking a lot more weeks to arrive than when it was promised, after the car was built, it was put on "Hold" for 3 additional weeks. I could not find out why, the dealer couldn't find out why, Ford was useless and then told me I would have to call the plant to find out who/why the car was put on "Hold".

Yeah, right! I am calling the receptionist at the plant right now and have her page the line manager !!

Ford doesn't care about custom orders and should just drop the option altogether.

I'm in San Diego, so they're a ton of dealers here and in surrounding areas. Yes, some dealers have a trend when ordering. But almost every dealer has automatics, manuals, PP1, premiums, base...etc. I'm personally not at all picky about options/colors in the least (except no black). When I was shopping, I had one requirement: PP1 (and not black). So my options on the lot were endless.

That's too Toyota-like...Well, if you buy a Toyota, you're a clone of your neighbors anyway :giggle:

Did I hurt your feelings? That is exactly what it is. I found exactly what I was looking for in 15 minutes.

2016 Performance pack with Premium package and Recaro seats. Not exactly a highly requested model from dealerships. If you wait 3 months for a custom order, I have no doubt that within that 3 months you will be able to find exactly what you want.
Morons on the internet don't hurt my feelings. You seem pretty invested in wanting my feelings hurt, asking if YOU hurt my feelings, when my first post was a reply to someone else.
Someone said they didn't understand why 'anybody' would order. I explained why it made sense for me. I made no judgment on anyone who doesn't. I think I even said 'nobody cares'. That includes me.

done with this

Usually that's a quality hold. They have a potential problem with a batch of parts or something and they're checking and/or fixing cars. They don't normally tell anyone outside the nature of these holds. Probably because it just stirs up people looking for things they never would have noticed.

I only read the OP and to be fair I skimmed through most of it.

If you plan to order a car from a non-premium brand and expect it to be built and shipped quickly, I have some bad news for you. This is fairly common across a lot of brands.

When I was waiting for my RS, guys were going crazy about delays. I ended up doing some searching and it happens with pretty much everyone but Porsche. But to be fair, that's how Porsche operates. I bet a significantly larger chunk of their orders are custom orders so they have to work like that.

Patience OP, patience. As stated previously some dealers get higher priority than others. I custom ordered my 2018 PP2, it took 5 months. COTUS was always pretty accurate, it did take a long time to get a VIN though. Was I concerned cause I ordered a $50k car, no because I had only spent $1k at this point as a down to get it ordered. They re bulilding a car and a lot of them too, give them a break, I’d rather they take their time than rush builds. Ford probably doesn’t know about your order until a VIN is created, once that is created it can be tracked. Until than it’s probably just a note on a spreadsheet along with a 1000+ other orders. Again, it’s a car, not a couch from the furniture store...

The dealer never should have told you 6-8 weeks, that’s rediculous unless they already had one on order that matched your request.

Good luck though, the wait will be worth it. Before you know it, it will be here and life will go on.

Peace.

In Australia we now see some dealer stock but when I ordered my 17 GT I had to wait 17 months so it sure is hard to be sympathetic!
