Ordered a MY19 yesterday to replace my 2008 C6 Vette convertible. Went for a GT convertible auto in Ingot Silver with Custom Pack 4. Much deliberation over MagneRide or not, and decided on not - demonstrator I drove didn't have it and felt fine compared to my Vette (even my wife sitting in the back said it was really comfortable :-)

Congrats :like: might come through the order process quicker without Magneride as most people seem to order it and there has been delays at the plant, it does make a big difference compared to one without it

That would be good - the Vette is probably going to its new home next month, so I'll then be V8-less until the Mustang arrives (and even worse I'll be driving my wife's old E-class diesel :-)

I know what you mean about being with a V8, I been in a van for just over a month now, since I sold my Mustang :frown: but not long to wait now :like: I would say you are looking at a minimum of 4 months before you see it,

I ordered my new MY18 GT convertible without Magneride. I am sure it's great for haring around the country roads, but not worth ÂŁ1,600 IHMO. I have owned 3 cars with Magneride (2003 Corvette 50th, 2011 Merc E63 AMG, 2018 Merc E63s AMG). I have found it of very limited use on UK roads. Doubtless people will get on here extolling its virtues, but I don't care if I have it or not. It's part of the standard equipment on my E63s, and great when I drive in one of its bonkers modes (and with 612hp and 4WD it is a LOT more bonkers than a Mustang), but aside from those rare occasions I never use it. At least it's switchable on the Mercedes, I understand it's part of the driving mode that is selected when used on the Mustang and cannot be switched on or off as desired.

Forget about Magneride, if your intention is to hare round country rounds in a more controlled manner, the best way is to not spend money on having the roof cut off :)

…...or buy a Mustang, if that's really your intention.

Indeed so - so much rigidity lost with the roof gone.

Jim - I'm not sure you understand how Magneride works - there is no off button with Magneride on any car so you always 'use it'. The Magneride shocks replace normal shocks and have different levels of stiffness with different modes and inputs - they are never passive as it defeats the object. They don't just have different settings as such either with constantly varying viscosity of the magnetorheological fluid contained within them. The main advantage is improved comfort when you want it or improved control when you don't.

And so much sunlight and fresh air lost with the roof still on :)

I may be second-guessing here, but I think Jim's point was that you can't do a "mymode" - the MagneRide mode is hard-linked to the drive mode.

Everybody's looking for something different - my racing around country lane days are long gone (especially as I now live on a country lane and know what a PITA it is when people treat it like a race-track!). Cruising roof down on a sunny day with the V8 warbling for me...

How much?
Not much I reckon. I haven’t noticed any scuttle shake at all. The convertible is a very rigid car. It’s loads of fun with the roof up and even more with the roof down on a sunny day. What’s not to like?

I think you will find the magneride is more linked to your style of driving more than the drive mode.

I the sensors detect you cruising around slowly and gently it will soften everything up, if it detects you turning into corners with more aplomb and roll angles increasing, it will stiffen up/soften up various corners of the car as necessary, to enable the best ride, cross amount of grip, cross amount of body roll necessary for the situation.

It will do all that continuously 24/7 while you are driving the car, and you can never turn that off. as has been said turning off magneride woudl be akin to taking the shock absorbers off your car altogether, not a good move in anyone's book, do not try this at home would be a good caveat here.

The various modes of driving just make the computers react faster and stiffen to a higher setting quicker, in the more sporty modes.

Having said that it is a constantly learning system, and if it detects you tend to throw the car around a lot, at any speed and most of the time, as that is your style of driving, then it kind of almost ignores what driving mode you are in, it will automatically learn to stiffen the car up faster, to a harder setting, as you turn into most corners.

In the same way, if you do cruise around all the time and never give it the beans, it will learn that, and even if you put it into race mode, it will stiffen things up, but not as much as for someone who goons it around in race mode all day long.

For the 2005 model the convertible had half the torsional rigidity of the coupe. The 2015 coupe was quoted as 28% better than the 2005 coupe 21000Nm/degree

So yes - it will be a huge difference. The coupe will be well over 26000Nm/degree, the convertible around 11000Nm/degree

This is normal - chopping the top off a 911 more than halves the torsional rigidity

I'm not sure how much softer the convertible spring rates are as stock, but this is usually the case to try and hide some of the lack of torsional rigidity
