Thank you for replying brother. I appreciate the kind words and support. I'll post an update later in the week to let everyone know how bad I got bamboozled.Tony, I wish I could add to this but looks like everyone beat me to it, Great advice guys! Dealerships sure are getting creative these days to rip off there customers.
I really hope you get it all covered under the powertrain man, sounds like it should be.
I believe you can buy a warranty after the mfg warranty expires, but the car will have to undergo an inspection. I think the cost is more expensive after the fact as well.Maybe time to call zach@granger and get that extended warranty
If I do that and walk away, I have to pay them the diagnostic fee. I'll have to talk to them on Monday and see what's what. Thanks for your input. It does get distasteful when a service department pumps up the bill.I'd be taking it to a different dealer, honestly (if there's one nearby)... even if you just get the warranty stuff fixed, don't let these jerks get paid by ford.
I wouldn't pay the diagnostic fee either, call Ford corporate and file a complaint. If I do that and walk away, I have to pay them the diagnostic fee. I'll have to talk to them on Monday and see what's what. Thanks for your input. It does get distasteful when a service department pumps up the bill.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to this issue. I ended up asking them to just do the warranty work (intake manifold replacement) and told them I'd pay for the PCM reprogram. Amazingly the Grille Shutters fixed themselves. They also lowered the price of the reprogram. So the bill went from $2,282.00 to $326. I'll take it to have no check engine light, no codes, and a smoothly running car. I might write the service department about that PCM as it's part of the Powetrain but I've got a life to live. Again, thanks everyone for the support. Mustang6g

Looks like a rip to me. PCM and intake is likely the only issue. Get a set of shutters at the junk yard for $30. (I doubt they are broken).@Cobra Jet @honeybadger @Tomster @shogun32 @Houston Kid @Ewheels @The Chairman @Bikeman315 @ChitownStang
@rxsamg @Seanuf99 @Epiphany and anyone else that can intelligently chime in, please do...
My 2018 GT car's check engine light went on and my Fordpass logged 5 different "Service Engine Soon" warnings all at the same time:
1: Detected a Misfire and the start stop feature (if equipped) could be disabled when this fault is present
2: Engine Control System Detected one of the temperature sensors are not agreeing with another, could effect start stop feature and be disabled
3: Engine Control System has Detected the Intake Manifold Runner Control Valve not operating as expected
4: Engine Control System has Detected Lower than expected reading from intake Manifold Runner Control Sensor
5: Powetrain control system has Detected that it is unable to fully open the active grille shutters
So I drop it off at the dealership, and they send me this via text:![]()
The intake Manifold is covered under warranty. But the active grille shutters, and the PCM all going together seems like a lot of problems in one fell swoop. The Fordpass app clearly told me the shutters faulted so I don't think the dealership is inventing problems.
My question is, would you guys have them do everything they are suggesting in this estimate and just eat it? I'm inclined to have them do the Manifold warranty work and the PCM only. Then either do the shutters myself, or see if it corrects itself after the Manifold and PCM are fixed. I believe the active grille shutters aren't a huge issue and can even be disabled or removed from what I've read. $1500 seems to be a lot of that issue.
Of course my warranty expired in April and I didn't extend it because I don't abuse the can and maintain it properly. Maybe time to call zach@granger and get that extended warranty.
