So here the problem I have... I have a Caddilac CTS with 100k on it and I have absolutely no second thoughts if I'm going to get stranded if I take it out. I have a shitty Saturn SL2 with 190k on it and I would not think twice taking it out of town; it will not strand me. I have a BRAND FUCKING NEW CAR and I was a tad worried to take my wife out on a date tonight because of the noise making me feel uneasy. I then say fuck it and take my wife out on a date and she ends up saying "Man that sounds like an old man choking to death" referring to the transmission noise. I have went from a tad worried to kinda fucking irate at this point. I just ticked 1000 miles and I have managed to get anther new noise out of the trans that again makes me feel even more uncomfortable.
Of course the flip side to that is: the year your cts and sl2 were brand new, there were probably people out there with those cars having issues that gave them pause about driving them.

Your problem sucks and I hope like hell it doesn't happen to me, but the reality is there are warranties and service departments for a reason.

I'm just not up for anther 60 mile round trip for them to be like "O those are normal noises for this trans". I just need to get an entire day free to do this so I can get something done or at least drive some other mustangs at the dealer to get some piece of mind that it is "normal". I did drive a ecoboost before my gt and I don't remember any "gear roll over" , " drivetrain backlash" noise or any excessive whine. I just want to hear that beautiful engine and exhaust note. The only time I can do that is in 5th or WOT. I just don't think that is how it should be.

Keep in mind all of the S550's have a dual-mass flywheel. The previous generations had single-mass, "traditional" flywheels (except 3.7L cars, which had a dual-mass flywheels).

The closest Ford dealership is 60 miles from you?

This is the first I've heard of all S550 models having dual mass flywheels. I knew the previous 3.7 models and the upcoming GT350 have them.

Interesting. I have faith Ford will fix any problems with this car.

Very few are billet from forged steel. Most are machined from a casting. A bad casting is possible. Very possible. It happens.

I wouldn't worry about dates and flywheels and tracking a problem because one failed. It happens. Sucks when it's you, but it does. If you going to worry about one failure and it happening to you, start worrying about every part on your car. Chances are, there's one somewhere that that part has failed on. It's mechanical.

Now if ten of them show up in a build blend, that's something to worry about. Until then, enjoy your car.
I'm in the aviation industry where even a failure of ONE component warrants what is referred to as an Emergency Aviation Service Bulletin (as in "you had better fix this right now and by the way, the particular model of your aircraft is grounded until all safety checks are complied with" type stuff) hence my referral to a potential recall if it is found that this particular component was defective or the manufacturer of the component did not comply with standardized component NDI testing under loads before production. OEM does not necessarily mean it came from the same source (Hint: Manufacturers are not wholly monitored and if they have been an OEM for some time and have an established good record, they get a "Pass off" as being compliant without oversight...it's done all the time).

Not sure what you're saying here. But this isn't the aviation industry. Things are a little looser in automotive world (right or wrong). I work in chemical industry and we won't allow running with one faulty part either that may cause an emergency or loss of containment.

I'm having interesting issues with mine as well. 1st and 2nd are very hard to get into, get a decent bang when depressing the clutch in 1st and 2nd. I'm at 800 miles, I think I'll probably give it another 200 or so to clear up and then I'll bring it in to look at it.

I'm a pilot and even I know the rule of thumb find a reason to not fly when you want to go flying..it's a lot worse to plow into someones backyard than it would be to slowly coast onto the side of the road and still be fine there's laws lol like annual and hourly inspections with aviation but from the automobile manufacturing standpoint it's not as serious of an issue

It was officially stated somewhere a few months back (mid-2014 about). Sorry I can't provide anything more concrete. I'm sure this will be confirmed in the near future though.

Broken flywheel . ford servic has been in contact with me about it trying to get se info and expediting the new flywheel because they're on backorder. They were generous enough to pay for the rental I currently have however
I'm glad the dealer was able to diagnosis this, Storm728. You're in good hands with the CSM and dealer.

Same sound here!!! Sometimes it bothers me so much that I just don't even want to drive it
Have you made an appointment with your dealer yet, Swagthony? It looks like your CSM has tried to get in contact with you; did you receive their message?

Let's get you back out on date night with no worries, SilverSpoon09. I've asked for your CSM to be in contact as soon as possible; please keep me updated when you've make an appointment with the dealer.

Let me know if you'd like me to loop in assistance from our Customer Relationship Center, if you do decide to take your Mustang in. I'll need your current mileage and best contact number at that time. :ford:
