Before you read my opinion, I previously had a 2011, 2012, and 2014, and I now currently own a 2015.

That said, I think the 2013-2014 were some of the best looking, and based on outward appearance only, I still think my 2014 looked better than my 2015.

Fortunately, I got a 2015 for many reasons that did not include a requirement that the 2015 "look" better than my outgoing Mustang. There is not one thing glaringly wrong with the current 2015 design, but it is a little too busy with the lines and creases. The best view of the 2015 is from the rear.

What people you're talkin about? What kind of world do I live in because I like the S550?
People outside of G6  But yeah, even I don't really like the front end of the new car very much myself. It just feels like a giant hole in the grill with the tiny ass Mustang horse.

IMHO the 15 is much more sleeker, smaller and sporty looking. The 13-14 is more handsome and traditional muscle car, but too slab sided, tall and large.

Both are great and look mean in their own way. Personally the 15 GTPP design had me at hello. No contest. I voted with my money.

I dunno, a '14 parked next to a '15 looks downright frumpy to me.

The S550 was the first Mustang in 20 years to make me want it immediately at first sight. Everything else has taken me a bit to adjust to.
I am also in this camp. I have NEVER been a Mustang fan, until the Boss 302 LS, and that had nothing to do with how it looked. I didn't find the car to be that attractive, but I admired it's hardcore character and true track cred.

The first time I saw in person a S550 in black with the PP, I was in love. Add in the new refinements and much better handling characteristics, I was sold.

The problem with Motor Trend is their staff is still stuck in yesteryear!

Not surprised. A lot of people in the real world don't really like the new Mustang. I was riding with a non-car friend the other day and riding beside a 2015 and my friend was like "ewwww wtf did they do to the mustang?"
Mustang sales are up nearly 70% over the last 4 months compared with last year's sales figures, and have finally surpassed the Camaro in sales with regularity. I'd say a whole lot more people like the new Mustang vs those that don't.

For me personally, the S550 finally brought me back to the Mustang. I owned 3 previously but my last one was over 10 years ago. Once I saw the S550 in person at the Houston Auto Show in January 2014 I was hooked.

However no car is going to be liked by everyone, and I couldn't really care less what an author of a magazine thinks about its looks.

Stang hasn't looked this good since its inception. Last generation was like a facelift on a horrible looking car. The 2005 has not aged well at all.

5th gen look is more of a retro muscle car, 6th gen has more elements of a classy sports car. I totally prefer the 6th gen, it looks like it's worth an aston martin but still looks like a Mustang

These magazines that do not like the S550 are just voicing an opinion that they alone hold. Obviously the masses disagree. I think the new Mustang design captured "Mustang" and modern very well.

When I first saw pictures of the 6th generation Mustang back in 2013 I knew I wanted it back then, and no magazine article (similar to motor trend) was going to sway me, as it's just one persons opinion.

Wow, people on a 6th gen mustang enthusiast forum disagree with an opinion article about appearances. What a shocking and totally unexpected outcome.

Up next, New England fans disagree with a negative article regarding the Patriots.

Meanwhile, the person who wrote the editorial is sitting at his desk saying "Thanks for the page hits!"

LOL, just checked out the link. That looks as though it was written by a 16 year old who doesn't have a clue what he's writing about. Really juvenile. The publishers of this junk must really be desperate for web page clicks.

Styling is subjective. There's no accounting for taste. Considering how well the 2015 car is selling, and my own experience with comments from others on my 2015 vs my 2013 (and my 2011, 2010, 2006, 2005 models, etc), Ford got it right with the styling.

Lastly, why should anyone think Motor Trend is an expert on anything? They're just a bunch of journalists, with an opinion, and their own biases. That's all. They are not experts. I did a quick scan of some of their Car of the Year winners. Even in the context of the time when these cars came out they were awful. So, what do they know? They only hurt themselves when they print such ridiculous opinions like in this link.

Partial list of past Motor Trend Car of the Year winners:

1999 Chrysler 300
1991 Chevrolet Caprice Classic LTZ
1983 AMC / Renault Alliance
1981 Chrysler K Cars
1980 Chevrolet Citation
1978 Dodge Omni and Plymouth Horizon
1976 Chrysler, Dodge Aspen, and Plymouth Volare
1974 Ford Mustang
1971 Chevrolet Vega
