Mix match tires

Hey guys, I’m looking at getting some aftermarket 20 or 21 rims at some point here soon, though my Michelin All Seasons are getting really low on tread. I stopped by a auto dismantler that has part Mustangs (2015+) and they had a rack of used tires outside. They had a set of my 255/40R19 tires for $40 a piece with like new tread, though one was like a Pirelli P-Zero Nero, Pirelli Centiri and a Hancock, the fourth was like a Kuhomo. I might have some of those spelled wrong, ha ha, though I believe they were all All Season.
is there any issue running slightly different tires like these? They were manufactured within the last two years, appeared to be in great shape. I drive anywhere from 200-400 miles a day and the $1,300 Costco wants for new tires feels a little step compared to $160 for these.

I would spend the money on a matched set of new tires and let the boat people use the mixed set for bumpers on their dock/pier.

OP, man…. This is not a great idea. I admit it’s better than bald tires (dangerous) but… I’ll bet you can find the money for a new set of quality tires. Tires are the worst place to cut corners.

Mixing tires is a bad, bad idea. Especially on a rear wheel drive performance car. You can get decent high performance all season tires for far less than $1300.

Tires keep my car attached to the road. I don't cut corners with tires. If I need to drink cheaper whiskey for 6 months in order to afford quality tires, then so be it (note: I don't mix whiskey and using my tires...). Same applies to brakes. I get quality brake work when I need it.

Wow, one different tire on each corner? That’s quite the variety.. for $160 do it and report back with results, but I suspect it won’t be good

If you got a set of spares that differ front to rear I think that would be a decent temporary fix. Just don’t go balls out mixing compounds and you’ll be ok

Driving on bald tires on any car especially in the cold months is just stupid.

Just to clarify, if your asking about driving on a different compound on every corner, I wouldn’t recommend it. Your well being (and others) are worth more than a few hundred dollars

What? If one looks around, I am sure that one could find 4 used spart plugs for a lot cheaper than a new set of the proper plugs.

Don't do this. You have a car with decent performance. Don't degrade it with cheap mismatched tires. I am with MachNroll, drink cheaper whiskey to save the money for a matching set of new ones, even if they are not the shin diggity of tires. Everything happens on that little patch of rubber that touches the road. If you want it to go, stop, and turn the way that it is designed to a mixed batch of tires is not going to get you there. I know that there are lots of computers on these cars, but they will have a hard time trying to figure out what the hell is going on in the traction control and stability control department. Keep in mind that just because they all have the same size on the sidewall there can be deviation between brands. Overall, it is just a not so good of an idea.

I once hard different tires front vs rears at autocross. I did that intentionally to manage under/over steer.

It was a bad idea.

Consider how it'd feel if you wore a heavy boot on one foot and a running sneaker on the other. While you'd get around, you wouldn't propel yourself well.

I'd do it if on the road and in need of another, or, to compose a spare. Otherwise, long-term, it's best to have a matched set.

Further, while the tires appear OK, you can't get any guarantees how they were treated previously, or, what condition they are truly in until mounted and inflated.

Ha ha, I really don’t want to sound like a cheapskate, I know used tires like that sounds bad, that’s why I had to ask just to solidify the decision

Main reason for wanting to use cheaper tires for a short bit is so I don’t spend $1,300 to drive around on new tires for a month just to spend another $1,300 for a set a month later plus $2,000 for the new rims, and just do the new set all at once.

So I’m just doing the whole setup at onc

I’m crazy OCD about my car maintenance and do 5K OCI’s with Amsoil SS, and even regularly service my transmission.
Though despite being very on top of everything, I think I’ve only had an alignment done maybe once after I got the car… not sure if that’s bad, but I did notice it’s wearing a little faster on the inside of the tires.
So I’m trying to decide between having the Ford dealer do it for $150 or Firestone Lifetime for $200. I drive around 3K+ a month so maybe I should be doing it more often?
