I just replaced the Cup2 tires on my 2023 Mach 1 with Michelin Pilot Sport PS4s since I will not be tracking the car. I would like to keep driving the Mach 1 here in the northeast as long as the roads remain free of salt. That said, I know that with some of the other high performance summer tires I have had on previous Mustangs (2021 Bullitt; 2014 GT 500) that once the temperature drops below 40 degrees the handling becomes problematic due to the low temps. Has any of the Mach 1 owners on this site driven their Mustangs with the temperature in the 30's and, if so, did the handling become hazardous?

Not a Mach 1 but I’ve driven my GT on the Continental Extreme Contact Sport (similar to the PS4S) below 40 degrees once (not by design). Not recommended, they get firm and slick in the cold. One time won’t hurt the tires but repeatedly doing so will cause them to crack.

Yeah handling went to crap under 40F when I was running the PS4S that came on my PP1.

Amazing tire otherwise though.

When I used daily my GT, I would leave very early in the morning for work. Temperatures at that time were around 2-5 degrees celcius (34-41 F) and often wet. I had to drive very carefully and even had a spin out close call. I didnt damage my tyres driving in those temps but i had to be gentle with the throttle.

I had to work late one night and left work with it in the 30's

I took it slow and easy and even then there was atleast one moment the tires told me "fuck around and find out if you want"

I'm a bit more focused on watching weather but it's also not my daily driver.

Owners manual and all summer tire makers say under 45 degrees F can damage the tires. I find my PS4s get a bit slippery in the 50s. Many people do it. But at $500 a pop it can be risky in more ways than one.

I like how this question is addressed to Mach 1 owners... I don't think the car matters much to the tires! FYI, my* "cold weather" tires are Pilot Sport 4 All Seasons. Much better behavior in colder temps in MD/PA than summer tires.

* Disclaimer - Ecoboost owner 😉

Absolutely not safe. Any moisture at all at those temps and you’ll think your car is on ice skates. Seriously.

less compliant more track focused cars transfer more grip requirements to the tires.

Yeah, I get that, to a point. Probably depends a little on how you're driving it, though.

Below 50 its not great lol, they get rock hard, feels like riding on skateboard wheels. I had pilot supersports on another car that were better in the cold.

A few weeks back it was 40 and raining and I lost the back end on a highway ramp on the PS4S's. If its a dry days only car get ultra high perfomance all seasons.

Also my stock michelins are cracked because I drove on them when it was near 30 for a few weeks, they were worn anyway but still, it does happen.
