MGW vs Barton shifter ?

Whats the feedback on both? Whats the difference between them? Is on more solid then the other? Does one make the throw shorter? Is there more noise whith them ? Harder to push and pull then stock? Is it something you would have in a DD?

Whats the feedback on both? Both are excellent. Had a Barton on my 11 and have a MGW on my 15

Whats the difference between them? Barton uses some factoy components/focuses on nvh reduction/cartridge system. MGW it a whole replacement and mounts to the trans suedo top loader.

Is on more solid then the other? Subjective. Depends on what you like more.

Does one make the throw shorter? MGW is 20%. Barton has a 25% cartridge.

Is there more noise whith them ? A little but nothing the stock tires don't already produce.

Harder to push and pull then stock? Not sure if I understand this one...the centering spring on the MGW is much stiffer but that doesn't affect your ability to throw it. Dunno about the 15 Batron but the one on my 11 felt about the same as the MGW.

Is it something you would have in a DD? Yes. most bang for the buck upgrade you can do besides window tint IMHO. You'll be happy with either brand.

Barton shifter felt like a million bucks. And it retains the lockout collar (MGW favors the traditional push-down feature) for reverse.

No experience with MGW. I hear that both are totally worth the money.

Both are 25% throw reduction... I asked both companies. I went mgw because it's a more solid design. Barton is still miles better than stock

There's more resistance but the feedback makes it easier and more consistent to shift. I have no issues with my stock gate action, but trying one back to back makes the stock action feel like a wet noodle.

I have only driven a Barton on a '12 GT. It was fantastic, yes there is more resistance. But it's not like driving a car with an extremely stiff clutch, which can get old on a dd. These types of shifters have the feel of a bolt action rifle, they are just smooth.

I was 100% sold on the Barton since that is what I have driven. But the MGW videos on their site are making me question myself. I'm going to order one soon, probably flip a coin to decide.

MGW is what I went with I love how it mounts to the transmission and I remember MGW being a 30% throw reduction. The stiff centering spring makes the 2nd to 3rd shift easy and flawless. I would say it's easier for me and NVH wasn't really noticeable.

The throw on our shifter is 20 percent. It may not seem like a lot but after testing many many throw settings we felt this setting was best to make sure the synchros do not get too much stress. its a lot harder to slow down your hand speed ( actually close to impossible ) then to set the throw ratio right so you can shift as fast as you can.


It sounds like you are giving up on a shifter that is rated THE BEST on the market for good reason. Watch this video and you will see that it is the best no compromise solution without ANY optional linkages or anything. EVERYTHING is in the kit . its basically a top loader now.

I'm in the same boat here...I cannot decide which one to buy.

Honestly, I don't think there is one negative review/feedback from either one.

I'm leaning slightly towards the Barton but I have yet to bite the bullet because I want to be 100% with my decision.

Is there any videos out there with real live driving with either shifter on this new mustang. If not, someone on here should make a video!

I went with the MGW because I liked the idea of a trans mounted shifter over using a rear bracket attached to the body like stock as well as going back to the push down for reverse. I hated that dumb plastic pull up collar.

But as everyone else in this thread has said (as well as MANY other threads on here), you can't go wrong with either one.

Just ordered a MGW & BOOMBA knob.

While I rather the pull up reverse, the fact that it hard mounts is very appealing.

I'm sure the Barton piece is good, but I have to say MGW could not be designed better. I have one in my '05 and it was heads and shoulders above the Triax I took out. The new one is pricy, but you can see what goes into building it. I'll be getting one.
