Issue with this idea is that VDM out of GT500 is not going to work in your car and GT500 dampers are valved differently than stock GT ones (but the valving or current / damping force isn't exactly publicly available).

So your stock VDM calibration is mismatched to the GT500 dampers, GT500 VDM won't work. DSC is an option if you know what you're doing.

@TeeLew can probably add to this discussion with more knowledge than me.
This is exactly the type of information I was looking for - it makes sense that PP1/2 magneride VDM will not be be ideal on GT500 struts due to different valving.

@BAYoung - which Steeda springs are you going with? The Dual Rate magneride Handling springs?

I'm currently debating between keeping OEM PP1 springs or switching to FP springs or Steeda Dual rate magneride springs.

Yeah. Dual rate handling ultimates.

What controller are you getting ?

Steeda's doesn't cover GT500 - most likely due to different damper valving that I mentioned.

DSC with their calibrations - I'd say they are less than optimal and I'd rather (speaker as DSC owner) stay with stock VDM.

What problem are you trying to solve by buying GT500 dampers ? Do you think they will be better or "increase handling" (which is dumb term that aftermarket uses) ?

Acitve dampers are sort of blank check - you need to drive current into them from controller for them to actually damp anything.

Currently off season driving on 375 lb/in front / 800 lb/in rear coilover springs on a stock GT magride dampers AND stock Ford VDM (DSC is currently out of the car) - it works quite well.

I have the FP Magnaride handling pack. Can't program the Magnaride yourself but it certainly helped with the cars stance and handling. I can tell a difference in the drive modes now regarding the suspension. The kit includes front and rear springs, front and rear sway bars and a tuner for the Magnaride calibration. Sounds like you want something else but I thought I would mention it. Car drops about 3/4" in the front and rear.

Because I'm building pretty much a streetable track car for 1, and 2, i want to try different things. I dont wanna build another cookie cutter car.

I have all of Steeda's handling catalog minus CC plates.

Lol. Good luck.

Modifying to modify is fine, just expensive.

The DSC calibrations....don't even get me started. I did run them, and I actually ran all four they send (GT, GT350, GT350R slicks, and GT500). They work, but they definitely require lots of free time to dial in. Still better than having a tune specifically built to Steeda's test pilots.

Weren't you on 400 lb springs at some point last year? I put mine in, and the ride is sublime.

Nice, I saw that as well. My only other suspension mod was a BMR Cradle Lockout. The kit and the lockout went on at the same time so I couldn't tell you how much the Cradle Lockout helped. I don't track my car unless you count the drag strip or some spirited runs with the local Camaro club through the mountains but the difference is very noticeable. Lowering and firming the suspension probably won't help me at the strip though.

With the mods you have installed, how does the car ride on the street when you just want to cruise? Is it comfortable? Just curious. I daily mine and don't want to bounce all over the place when I hit a pothole. :)

I would hate to be living in NE (again) with a boosted Mustang. Especially when I can run DR's all year long :)
