I’ll be installing some dual rate springs in the near future, so I would like to run with the lower splitter on for track days, but take it off if I’m heading out for a road trip.

The first step was lower splitter removal, a small burr bit on a drill to provide a center for a pointed air hammer bit worked the best to remove all of the plastic rivets.

I ordered some M5 aluminum rivet nuts, M5-20 nylon machine screws and a M5 rivet nut wrench style install tool off of Amazon to replace the plastic rivets. I added a large fender washer to the install tool in order to get some pressure on the spacer.

Edit: Read another post where another gentleman used 5mm well nut to install the lower splitter, he mentioned they worked good.

Reattached the lower splitter. The “Nylon” screws from Amazon were very fragile, I snapped a few with just a T handle Allen wrench, I’m going to have to rethink the fasteners, but it’s back on.

Very interested in this mod. Had a chance to mount and dismount? Just curious any reason why you went aluminum versus plated steel?

Actually, great start. This removable lower splitter needs to be a "kit"

Yes, I did take it off to remove the broken plastic M5-20 screws and replaced all with M5-16 stainless button head screws. I chose aluminum rivet nuts since it’s a plastic base material and the nuts collapse easier.

BTW, just installed the Steeda dual rate springs and they are sweeeet!

Let’s see some before after pics! And height measurements!
Not sure the car has totally settled but after one 30 mile local trip to bed the brake pads, there is about 4.25” clearance to the lower splitter. The cornering and braking dive is greatly improved without compromising the normal ride quality.

Which Rivnut style did you end up going with? Thinwall etc.

I was thinking about tackling this next when its not 103 outside almost every day. I don't remove my splitter but if I ever needed to, this is the way to do it and it looks very clean.

Have you experienced any issues with losing any rivnuts with the plastic expanding on hotter days and the on/off action of the lower splitter? I love this idea just curious if it will stand the heat and removal/adding.
