Instead of the engine, its the tranny.
And like what my wife said as I explained limp mode to her, "'If it's the transmission, you can't even turn the heater on to help cool it down."

Excellent point on the car behind- don't know if upshifting's gonna do too much if the engine is limited though..

Anyone know if the hazards come on automatically when one hits limp mode?
Hey Ford, another liability identified aroung limp mode....
No hazards coming on. I've had limp mode kick in essentially 3 times. two track driving events (9-13min into each session). And 1 on the street, spirited driving.

Have had the car into the dealership 2 times. Last time I opened an official 'ticket' with ford corporate. Not very effective, but did find out that "they are aware" and are working on some type of 'sports pack' (cant remember exactly what she called it). No info on timeframe for availability or exactly what it will include. My guess based on the issue and what little tidbits I've heard is a combo software and hardware.

However, I've been talking to a local performance shop and I am comfortable that they can do a good cooling system that wont add much weight and take the temp down some. Thought about selling the car, but I like everything else about it soooo much.

Thanks Reazo. I asked about the hazards just due to the ridiculousness of the situation, appreciate your response and additional info on your experiences. I typically do a 170 mile trip on weekends and w the summer heat coming around, I'm hoping not to go limp mode just driving on the highway.

It should be as simple as this: You should not be overheating on the street. You should not have to pay $1k for a home solution, or even the potential $2-4k+ solution that Ford is coming out with to remedy this potential issue.

Record video beginning at normal temps. Once a bunch of owners send in irrefutable proof that the car is overheating is normal driving conditions, theres no way in god damn hell the dealership, Ford, or Ford performance can tell you that you used the car in unintended purposes.

Id like to see them weasel out of that one. Like I said, wouldnt be surprised if there was a class action lawsuit.

Well, as everyone is aware, there is already a TSB regarding a sensor, unrelated to the overheating issue, which requires replacing the trans.

I tracked my base gt350 today for first full run time. Car never went into limp mode at all. Ran car for 30+ minutes in 3rd and 4th gear on 2 chase sessions. Ran in sport mode at Autobahn country club in Joliet. I posted my results in a new thread. Just fyi

What were the weather conditions?
90 degrees, sunny with a slight breeze. Ran in 3rd and 4th gear and always kept the car in sport mode. Ran the car up to 8000rpms on straights and probably 6000-7000rpm thru curves. About 125mph on straight and 70ish thru curves or so. Didn't really pay that much attention on that because of track and speed. Time frame on track was designated for 40 minutes or so. Ran about 6-7 laps maybe more. Again didn't keep track and had a go pro and it kept falling off windshield so couldn't take video. Hope this helps

Looks like I said that but the quote chain is off on my browser anyway. But yes, mom did sell the Healy when I was about 2. Wish she still had that car ...

Yes, could have run harder but I was new to the track and had to run behind chase car.
Is your car a Tech Pack or base? Any mods? When was the car built? Sorry for the thousand questions but it helps set a baseline.

Car is a base. I took delivery mid December and I ordered this car in October. I am not exact on chassis # but I think it is around 1600 or so. I understand what you are getting at. All I was worried was will the car go in limp mode at the track and when. While I was there the person who invited me from Autobahn I mentioned limp mode and he said he personally has had 4 Shelby gt350's at the track of other invitees and 2 were R's, 1 track and 1 other base and as far as he knows none went into limp mode. He kept telling me it would be ok and it was.

The cars that went into limp mode what was there driving habits? Did they hold 3rd gear through the whole course? Were they in tight traffic with some air going through the car vs. Full free air? I truly understand why you want this info.

Also here is my break in procedure:
First 100 miles babied it and kept it under the 3500-4000 rev limit.
After 100 miles gently pulled it up to to high rpm here and there and only for a second or two.
Changed oil at 500-600 miles.
Kept extended rpm to a minimum with holding it no more than 10 seconds or so to the 8k mark
Ran Autobahn in April on track but as tour mode not exceeding 40-50mph
Actually run the car more in sport mode so far. Mixes 65% sport to 35% normal. Have not put it into track, weather or drag modes yet.
1st extended pull to 8k level and pushed it was at 1016 miles on odometer. Ran it up to 8100rpm or so in fourth to 162mph
At 1203 miles went to Autobahn and ran 1 line follow run with abotb20 other cars and 2 full chase sessions. On the chase sessions it was pro in 16 Porsche turbo s and myself to follow. Clean air flow to car?
I live 11.8 miles from Autobahn
Car now has 1363 miles
Also filled gas tank near my home when I left and came back with car at just shy of 1/4 tank

Hope this helps
