I'm driving a '21 M1 with 20,000 miles on it. 3/36,000 warranty will expire next year. Regularly serviced, never abused, and wondering what a reasonable expected lifespan will be for it. What's driving my inquiry is I'd like to keep it for many years and wonder when I can expect to see it start to deteriorate (i.e. need repairs). Given that the new generation of coyote powered mustangs are around $60k, it makes sense for me to keep what I have versus pay the current price for a new one. Anyone have any opinions or first hand knowledge of how these 5.0 mustangs hold up as they age?
Thanks everyone for your responses đź‘Ť

I had a company 2012 F150 that had 235,000 miles on it when they sold it. Never any major engine repairs. The 2017 F150 I'm in now has 220, 000 miles, and again no major repairs but the tranny has been slipping. The new company plans on running the wheels off this thing, so not going up for sale. I hope I get to keep it since it is a very nice truck.

They hold-up as well as you take care of them. And that's true for everything.

There's Mercedes taxis in Germany with 1,000,000,000+ miles on them. Of course damn near the entire car has been replaced over time, but a car can last as long as you're willing to throw money at it.
I’m gonna have to call BS on a billion miles.

You have absolutely nothing to worry about, bruh. These engines are bulletproof, especially if we're talking stock.

It depends.. my dream car (Mustang GT 2021, Twister Orange, Roush 2) was taken out on I-95 and totalled by some numb nut after 14 months of ownership.

The longest running Mercedes-Benz vehicle (and the second longest running vehicle ever) was the 1976 Mercedes-Benz 240D, owned by Gregorios Sachinidis. He put 2,850,000 miles on that 1976 240D before Mercedes-Benz contacted him in 2004, trading him a brand-new C-Class for his piece of history.

This is the documented one we don't know about the taxi's but surely there are some with more than that.

Look on the bright side the same people that fit the body panels on the car put the engine parts together. :)

I do trust the motor in this car but the jury is still out on the trans.

Having driven a few 240d's i not very fun. A cement mixer can run circles around it. The specs I found were 0-60 in 20 seconds. But it's slower than that.

Currently at 13 years and 105,000mi on my Gen I S197 5.0L. All I’ve ever done is regular maintenance - oil, spark plugs, PCV valves, coolant flushes. About ready to tackle the serpentine belts. Will replace all coolant hoses at the next coolant flush. Engine pulls as hard as Day One, but I don’t abuse it. Pretty sure with regular maintenance the engine will last forever.

I think time will kill these Gen 3 motors when the plastic oil pick-up warps from heat and wipes out the motor.

I would not be concerned about the engine. But the electronics are another matter. I was not happy with $1400 in electronic repairs at less than 18k miles.

One of the reasons I didn’t get go premium with the digital dash (plus I prefer the analog look). I can’t even imagine what the repair costs on the S650 iPads will be once those are out of warranty. Touchscreens, cool features and all that are great until they break…

If the iPads go out just throw a couple of etch-a-sketches in there…..

Lol unlikely, plastic pickups are nothing new in the automotive world. The biggest risk is the oil pressure bypass solenoid getting stuck closed.
