I had engine replaced in my 2017 and will be doing the first oil change soon. With the original engine I use the Motorcraft. I know there are alternatives and I'd like to get other's thoughts.

Also, how is the availability of the cartridge filters? And where is the best place to buy oil and filter? (Amazon is $157 for the Motocraft 12qt pack, and I last paid $120).

The mechanic I spoke with at the GT350 Track Attack said they had no oil issues using Castrol Edge 5W-50. I asked why they didn't use Motorcraft, and he said it was because Castrol was a sponsor.

FPRS was using the Edge SuperCar 5W50 - at least that's how it was labeled on the barrels they had in the garage area. Unfortunately, the SuperCar version of Edge in that viscosity doesn't appear to be sold at retail in the US any longer.

I was planning on just running that in the Mule, but since I can't find it, I'm interested in what others are using. My likely default will be to just join the "My Local Ford Dealer Needs a Bigger Boat" club and start buying Motorcraft by the case from them.

If you buy Motorcraft by the case from O'reilly, they can give you a discount that's cheaper than any online option. At least that was in my case (ha) with two separate O'reilly locations.

I've been using Motorcraft for 40k+ miles and with 40+ track hours on the engine, oil analysis is still good. Oil change after two track days. I see no reason to change.

I usually buy my Motorcraft 5W50 from Rockauto.

1) https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/

2) I run exclusively redline 5w-50 and when my 1st gen motor let go Ford had no issues with me running redline oil and they warrantied my engine.

3) https://www.mustang6g.com/forums/threads/fl-2087-update-interesting-information.170872/ -- This thread gives good info on the lack of availability of the 2087. If you can find one on a restock at rock auto get it fast. Else you should keep trying Ford dealers and or use an aftermarket filter and keep an eye on your filter at your normal OCI.

I've been using Mobil-1 European spec 5w50. Napa near me has been selling it for $6 a quart so I've been buying it up.

I was at O'Reilly's and the morocraft is 799 qt, but special order. So 106 for 12.

They are checking to see if they can actually get it. Also no 2087 filters

I use Amsoil 5W50 Signature Series, which I recommend. I buy mine direct from Amsoil, since there are no places within practical driving distance from me I've found that carry that particular weight Amsoil.

For filters, stick with the Motorcraft FL 2087 filter, currently in scare supply. I would check with any Ford dealer near you; with various auto parts stores in your area; on Amazon; on E-Bay; persistence should eventually pay off until supply chain things start to return to normal.

Examining Mobil-1 specs they currently say they do not have a 5w50 that meets Ford specs.

Search function is your friend. Now if you cannot find anything on oil, you did the right thing by asking. This subject has been beat to death in the past.
That said, why haven’t you changed your oil in about 5 years?
