I am curious to see how with this tune an Ecoboost does vs a unmodded V8
Straight up race? More than likely leaving the Ecoboost owner wishing he/she had a V8.

Farting around on the hwy (not getting too crazy) and BS'ing around town? No issues. I've not had issues in either scenario... and I have a heavy vert.

Ford Performance changed the power ratings on their website:
Before-

Peak gains of 30hp and 70lbs/ft at ~5500rpm

After -
· Peak gains of 25hp at ~5500rpm and 70lbs/ft at ~2200rpm
70 ft-lbs at 5500 is a 73 HP not 25 HP or saying it the other way 25HP at 5500 is a 24 ft-lbs increase, so it's obvious that was a typo.

I don't think it's a typo at all, it all sounds in-line with what other canned tunes provide. This just comes with the 3yr/36k mile warranty from Ford Performance is the only difference I see. I'd still like to see the dyno, 100hp @ 6k RPM is respectable.

It sounds like the major change is that the usable power band becomes much broader. Works for me.
Agreed. The power up top doesn't drop like a rock off the GW.

Doesn't the Cobb Tuner put everything on the bottom RPM range?

So my dealership contacted me back. They might be willing to match the lower prices being offered around and also the they will charge me 200 for the install.
what are the other pricing your getting?

Heat Soak?

Question:

I know that this tune doesn't cater to the bigger intercooler crowd. However, the stock tune can handle a bigger intercooler.

Heat soak is the one thing that keeps the EBM from being a serious track racer.

A bigger intercooler should, in theory, prevent heat soak all on its own, however many of the custom tuners optimize their tunes for the bigger intercooler.

Is this tune going to be compatible with a big intercooler, just like the stock tune is? How many advantages will you miss because the tune can't be optimized for the specific intercooler you're using?

They are independent. It's actually the other way around. You can put a more efficient FMIC on any EB and get improvement regardless of tune. Tuners can take advantage of the bigger intercoolers by adding even more timing (or retarding the timing less) under more load. I've never seen the tables for this ECU but I'm guessing the way they do that is to adjust the range. Although the tuner defines programs the table, the ECU will dynamically set the timing according to several parameters, one being temperature. The hotter the CAT, the more it must reduce timing to protect the engine.

In short, yes you can use a more efficient intercooler with this tune but Ford isn't expecting or requiring you to have one.

I'm going to take a WAG and say that with 93 gas and a better intercooler, the number will be higher than what Ford has published... maybe significantly higher.
I wouldn't count on significantly higher; they are putting a warranty on this thing.

I don't know how significantly but I definitely agree. First of all the 2 extra octane will allow some timing advance, the cooler CATs from the FMIC will allow more.

It'll be interesting when this is released and we get some of these on the dyno.

Which you'd probably void with an aftermarket intercooler anyways :headbonk:
