Thanks for clarifying @JCFoster

Most of the noise I hear is also on multiple smaller bumps at low speed rather than over a single crack or bump in the road.

Again the clunking and noise wasn’t present for the first 800 miles or so but then it slowly started to appear and get louder. That’s why I think it’s not the shocks.

Another thing is after the two times I’ve taken apart the rear shock setup and tightened everything back up (top nut on the mount included), it’s quieter again. Then after driving maybe 15-20 miles the noise comes back. I figure it’s the mount loosening up again at the top nut or something.

Once I get these J&M shock mounts I’ll try to get them installed asap and report back. I’m hopelessly optimistic these will sort out my issue.

Anyone lowering their Mustang should 100% change out the rear shock mounts and get Eibach bump stops. The rear suspension was design to ride on the bump stops so if you reduce bump travel and continue to use a bushing based shock mount, it’s a bad combination.

It sounds different than what I’ve experienced with them. If you don’t mind keep us posted.

Will do. To specify - the noise is a weird rubbery bumping/clunking. Weirdest noise I’ve heard in a while. Maybe I’ll attempt to capture it on video so it can be heard.

Thanks for the update Ryan, good to see you've had some success with the bumpstops and you're persevering. Re:

If I’d done more research beforehand like I normally do, I would not have bought the Koni Actives for a lowered car. Could’ve bought the Ford track dampers or Bilsteins and been better off.
Understand what you're saying. And yet Koni claim they've had great results with the Eibach Pro springs.

Have you had any further discussion with Koni? They were very helpful when I talked to them initially. Look forward to hearing about how the new mounts go.

Thanks for the reply. Once I change the shock mounts I’ll know for sure that it’s the shocks if the noise is still there - hope to hell it’s not. If I still hear the noise I’ll definitely be reaching out to Koni.

Are you serious? Why was no one talking about this noise in other reviews. I would NEVER have bought them knowing there would be NVH issues. A better ride isn’t worth having your car sound like a 90s econobox. I guess that’s what we get when we buy an unproven product. Doesn’t seem like Konis are that great in general.

Well here’s hoping the shock mounts make a positive difference. Good thing I don’t daily the car anymore; I was getting sick of listening and feeling that clunking.
I did not experience bumping/ clunking sound from my Koni Active, no matter low or high speed. I drove on bumpy road everyday on my way to work. It does not have any NVH issues.

Did your replace your shock mounts? How many miles on your car?

I have no idea if it’s the shocks or my shock mounts, I have the J&M shock mounts waiting to go in to replace the stock ones that had 55k on them. I’m fairly confident the new mounts will fix the NVH issue but if not I’m chucking these POS shocks.

@Stone 54 good to hear you're liking them, what springs and bump stops are you using?
Only replaced the stock struts and shocks. Currently around 12,000KM. Stock springs and bump stops.

Makes sense why there’s no noise then. Good to hear yours are problem free.
Don’t have a garage to use to replace my shock mounts so still waiting on install until it’s a good time.

Good luck with your install! But before that, keep social distancing.:cwl:

I had a similar on going issue with Steeda actives. They absolutely hammer in the rear steeda mounts. I got a replacement spacer sent because the first one I received was the wrong size. The new one made 0 improvement. On steeda ultralight linner springs.
I went ahead and ordered the j&m mounts which also hammer in the mounts. Installed with stock mounts they were quiet. I've had my car jacked up so many times I'm ready to throw the mounts and the shocks in a dumpster.
Flipping the j&m spacer to sit on the shock and go up into the bearing from the bottom seems promising but counter to what the instructions said, at least from what I could decipher.

Well that’s not promising to hear. Did you install the J&M mounts on the lower bolt holes to give more shock travel? That’s what I plan to do but I need to cut off those alignment points.

I thought about stock mounts again cause they’re cheap but I figured they wear out quick again.

Still trying to figure out the ideal time to get into a garage and install my J&M mounts but COVID has us all staying home. It’s frustratingly necessary.

@Danmg202 hey Dan did you talk to Steeda again? In my experience they go above and beyond to make things right.
What type of bump stops are you using with the Ultralights?
