Do the rails change the crumple characteristics of the vehicle? Specifically, will they transfer force in low impact collisions that causes more damage (or damage to more parts) than without them?

I'm thinking about the old hood braces for C/K pickups that prevented the hood from folding while closing at the cost of creating a guillotine in a collision.
Steeda jacking rails here and love them! Totally got my monies worth out of them...

Crush zones are primarily in front of and rear of the cabin so there's no real interference there.

Just cut a slit in a piece of 4x4 wood. Works great for the once in a great while I need to use it. I suppose if I was jacking up the car more I'd get some rails.

The pads look great...rails look clunky.

The newer Steeda rails are lower profile. Less noticeable than my last set of the original Steeda rails I had on my first s550. Very happy with these.

I made my ZL1-style pads myself. The tubing cost <$5 from Amazon.

Rails rule. Just like having welded sub-frames being able to jack it anywhere (funny sentence).

I've used the pinch welds dozens of times on bare jacks, no issues. I recently added hockey pucks because $1 and they work great.

I would absolutely get rails if I was changing wheels/tires at autocross or track days.

As rarely as I put a jack to the Mustang, and with the lack of a spare tire, I decided to go with a set of 4 ZL1 pads. (3 would have been perfect, 2 for stands, and 1 for the jack).

This was to keep the weight off of the car, and to avoid any potential dynamics changes the rails might cause.

My Use:
I only use a jack occasionally to rotate my tires (side to side, only, on Performance Pack cars), and eventually brakes... and any other repair that requires removal of the tires or more clearance than my ramps provide. I have a set of ramps that provide enough clearance for just about anything I can do with the wheels on.

If you guys want jack pads I have these.
They bolt on and no drilling and are made of aluminum.

$400 for four pads? I just bought 4 magnetic for $120.

I do like the idea though. Might be a good 3D print project at work soon.

$1,800 for a floor jack?! Even a lo-pro with a 2-stage pump shouldn't be that much... Especially if you can get 1/2 the worklife for 1/8 of the price... just buy two and save 75%.
