Is it worth picking up jack stands just for wheel changes?

Get a quickjack. You'll always have an occation to use them.

I have a lift and still use my rolling floor jacks for simple things like a tire change. If I'm just changing wheels, I use two rolling floor jacks and don't bother with the jack stands. I'm not telling anyone else they should do that, but it's a risk I am willing to take.
