Hi all, any recommendations/info on the Fluid to use in an Intercooler (Roush Phase 2) when the vehicle will be stored over winter months, indoors but in an unheated garage space where temps can reach well below zero degrees F?

I know the recommended is typically 50% Antifreeze/50% Water, but this mixture will freeze in the Minnesota Winters.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Gt's don't have Intercoolers turbo cars do and you're cooling air with a intercooler 🙂
50/50 mix is good for at least 20* below. in a garage even a unheated one will keep it out of wind and weather.

Does it get to -35*F on a regular basis inside that garage? Cuz that's the freezing point of such a mixture.

Does not get minus 35 in garage....I think the coldest may be a week or 2 stretch of Single digits inside the garage.

I would use the same ratio you have in the radiator

Positive displacement supercharged cars have intercoolers. They also have heat exchangers. Both require coolant that uses antifreeze. Roush Phase 2 cars have an intercooler for sure.

As you can see, even a 40% mixture will get you down to around -10F. If it were me, and there was ANY chance of seeing deep cold (like MN) I'd rock 50/50 in the winter.

In the warmer months, a 50/50 mixture will reduce the thermal transfer of about 17% down to 13% (20C-80C). So it's a tradeoff between boiling point elevation and reduction in ability to move heat through the system. I'd recommend swapping to a Summer mixture if you flog the car hard and can afford swapping it out each year.

The boiling point elevation is important, but pure water doesn't boil until about 231F under 1.45 bar (the pressurized radiator cap). Most guys in hot climates simply run water with a bottle of water wetter.
