Install was easy, take off about 6 tabs on the wheel liner at the front and top and one back . Jack up, take off tire, take off the cross member behind the bulb housing, two 10mm bolts. Then take off the bulb cover, slide the connection down off the bulb. Then press the two metal tabs to take out the bulb, then vise virsa. Plug and play, your just swapping bulbs
sounds like a lot of work lol

Nope. Fog lamps are on the upside of 6-7k

Replacing a bulb doesn't change the angle of the projector so it really shouldn't be an issue. That said, even before lowering I had to raise my lights from the stock position.
That I never knew. How do these people manage to change the angle then?

Often it's people putting hid's in headlights/projectors designed for halogen bulbs and the light dispersion is different.

Thanks for all your feedback!

Wow...I haven't looked under the hood at the headlights...or read the instructions in the owner manual with regards to changing bulbs...

But...removing a front wheel to change a headlight bulb...sounds like work!!

You can do it without taking the tire off, it's just more cramped.

Let me correct a few things first. The OEM bulbs will be 4200K-4300K and produce about 3200 lumens. The Osram 66340(D3S) CBIs will generally be about 4500K initially and shift to 5000K after about 20 hours of run time. After the "break in" period they will produce around 3500 lumens.

HoustonMustang, what exactly aren't you happy with as far as output goes? CBIs aren't exactly cheap at $260 a pair for the D3S set.
Just heard back from a TRS rep, because my invoice has 5500k. He told me they are in deed rated up to 5500k from osram. Wonder how long that burn process will take?

They will eventually colorshift to 5500K but it will take far longer to do. Once it starts to colorshift to 5500K, it will start to lose lumen output. There's a difference between the burn in and colorshifting

I come from a big headlight retrofitting hobby, but damn all that just to get the backside of the headlight!

My last car to get the driver's side you had to remove the battery and on the passenger side the washer fluid tank had to come out......

You have to take off the entire fender to replace the bulb on a Bentley Continental lol

Most exotic shops charge around $2,000+ to perform that procedure

I for one would like to get brighter bulbs as well. I do feel like at night they are not bright enough. When you get a chance a comparison would be awesome. The hidplanted link isn't working so where is a good place to buy bulbs for our cars. I know I did 8000k in my 67 chevelle which totally helped out being able to see while driving the car, wasn't super blue but had just a hint of blue while looking at it .

Thanks

Coming soon
well got some bulbs yesterdy from the wife and put them right in. Didn't get to take before pics, but maybe later i can do a side by side. any way the sun was setting so it wasnt as dark as i wanted it to be. But i'll take some more at a darker place, so you can get a better feel of the output . but they look real good, a good improvement over stock, i believe. Did a little research, stock bulbs come in at 4650k. cbi are 5000k up to 5500k, after they burn in alittle. The CBI wasn't revolutionary because it was the "brightest" bulb, it was revolutionary because it was the first bulb at 5,000K to match the lumen output of a 4,300K bulb.( from hidplanted.com)
Did the upgrade affect the gills? Is it harder to see the gills? I'm trying to make them much brighter.

That is just the headlight bulb and won't effect the gills. The gills are separate LEDs mounted on 3 little boards. Check out Diode Dynamics website. They are the only ones I know with a solution for brighter gills. It does require opening the headlight housing though. If you aren't comfortable with it, there are shops they know that do the work.
