I for one would like to get brighter bulbs as well. I do feel like at night they are not bright enough. When you get a chance a comparison would be awesome. The hidplanted link isn't working so where is a good place to buy bulbs for our cars. I know I did 8000k in my 67 chevelle which totally helped out being able to see while driving the car, wasn't super blue but had just a hint of blue while looking at it .

Thanks
Be careful with focusing on just increasing the temperature. If memory serves, around the stock value 4300k is the most efficient for brighter light. Although 8000k looks brighter to the eye, it will most likely produce less light. They do look cool though.

Personally, I'm in the process of trying to replace all of my front lights to be 5000k. This thread is very helpful!

Nick @ Diode Dynamics, I see you have the HID bulbs available on your website now and can choose the temperature between 4300, 5000, 6000 and 8000 and only $80. Will these have the same output (in lumens) or brighter than the stock bulbs? Any idea what the output would be? Specifically, I'd like the 5000. Any idea why the Osram and Phillips bulbs are so crazy expensive?

Our replacements will have nearly identical lumen output to the factory HID bulbs. The kelvin temperature you select will play a factor in usable output. (8000K is less usable than 4300K).

Osram and Phillips are well-known manufacturers who produce the highest quality, and pay more labor and development costs.

They will likely perform better than stock, but at $240/set

We offer a quality option that performs well and produces a nice change in color. (5000K is my personal favorite) for a reasonable price ($80/pair)

I suggest checking out our research section on HID lighting for more information as well: http://www.diodedynamics.com/store/research-1/research-hid.html

Feel free to give us a call if you have any other questions: (314) 205-3033

Thanks!

Thanks Nick, that was very informative. I certainly know a lot more about HID bulbs, what creates the color, difference in 35W vs. 55W, how the base is important, AC vs DC, importance of installation care, etc. One thing I was also going to read on there but the link is broken is the HID output. I'm impressed at how your bulbs are made. When I buy HIDs, I'll definitely get yours for $80 vs paying $200 - $300.

That is just the headlight bulb and won't effect the gills. The gills are separate LEDs mounted on 3 little boards. Check out Diode Dynamics website. They are the only ones I know with a solution for brighter gills. It does require opening the headlight housing though. If you aren't comfortable with it, there are shops they know that do the work.
I haven't looked at the new stangs up close yet, but can you even see the gills with the headlights on at night? If so, did changing to brighter HIDs make it harder to see the gills?

I guess I'm worried that upgraded HID bulbs will be so bright that the gills will be hidden.

We will put together an installation video demonstrating the bulb replacement procedure once we get our Mustang put back together

(Currently at Panda Motorworks for some EcoBoost performance upgrades)

Installing the bulbs themselves is not too difficult, but gaining access to the factory bulbs is a bit more involved.

I'd stick with 6000K personally

There's no need to be concerned about the gills not being visible with HID's installed

Installed mine today. Took me about 30 min total to install. Very easy to remove old bulbs and install new ones.
