I got caught in my first thunder storm and..........

It drove like a dream, put the beast in rain mode and drove like i had sense and not one slip or slide. I owned a "82 GT, and it was un drivable in the rain, period. The technology in the new cars is freaking amazing!

There really is no reason to use that mode like ever - maybe in some deeper snow if you get caught in it on summer tires...

Whew... thought you were going to say you got caught in some hail... These cars do manage the rain well, don't they? I've used the rain mode a few times, but usually drive in Normal unless there is a lot of standing water on the road. Good tires really help, too. I drove an 82 GT and an 83 GT that were owned by friends, and you really had to be on top of those cars, even in the dry. Different world now!

Not sure I agree with that. It definitely changes the characteristics of the car to the point that the right foot should not get you into trouble. Feels incredibly sluggish which might be a good thing in bad conditions.

Certainly not a substitute for proper driving however.

Not sure I agree with that. It definitely changes the characteristics of the car to the point that the right foot should not get you into trouble. Feels incredibly sluggish which might be a good thing in bad conditions.

Certainly not a substitute for proper driving however.

I know very well that it changes the characteristics - what I am saying that car is extremely easy to drive on the street safely and conservatively set up as it is in a Normal Mode or even in Sport or Track on a street in low grip conditions as long as tires are in a good shape.

It does help if you have shoes which allow a reasonable amount of "pedal feel" so that it is practical to be smooth and gentle with the throttle, brake, and if relevant the clutch. Driving in thick sole work boots might making being smooth and gentle much more difficult.

I've driven RWD cars in rain and snow for probably 10+yrs now, some times even with DR's on the back. These new cars are great in nearly all weather but soon as I put on Snow/Rain mode in the BULLITT it felt more confident than my AWD Q50 did. Now not to say I'd push it as hard in a corner, but when rolling down the highway and back roads it just doesn't feel like it ever wants to let go. It's just much more stable.

I have not driven in the rain yet, but have tested out that mode and agree it stunts the performance greatly. I could see it definitively helping in adverse conditions.

I've driven a wide range of cars, and never had an issue in the rain. Sure the modern traction/stability control systems help, but as long as your tires are in good shape and you aren't going too fast for the road conditions, you should be ok.

Thinking about this some more considering that for normal weather conditions I always use Normal mode for the extra margin of safety in case of unpleasant surprises it absolutely makes sense to use the bad weather mode in those conditions, especially in snow/ice or borderline conditions. That said I usually have my wife in the car and she makes sure I drive VERY carefully in slippery conditions.

Really there are no points for waving our "man cards" on the internet.

So just like everything in life there are people who are better or worse at anything. This mode helps take the drama out of it for the people that either aren't as a super driver as you are or possibly don't want to worry that their tires might be in fantastic shape. Either way it is built into the car so why not use it?

I had a 2014 RAM Sport 4x4 and anytime the conditions were suspect I'd put it in the 4x4 auto mode just in case it needed to engage all wheels not because I could not drive it in 2 wheel mode but because it is there.

You also cannot control other drivers on the road so every layer helps.
