Im talking about when I went in and got my plates and new registration for the car.

Right. I was commenting to the effect of what Registration renewals would be. I thought you may have been saying you thought it would be 400.00 next year.

Getting the registration renewed next year(plates extended) will probly be around $400. If this isn't what we are talking about, my bad!

Mine was $345, but the county next to mine is around $1200. Pretty ridiculous

Sorry, It is my bad. I didn't realize Indiana has Excise tax that you need to pay. That is crazy expensive! The registration renewal itself is only 21.50 but the Excise tax on a 36k vehicle is 300-350.00! That is bonkers.

When do you usually have to renew your tags? Mine is every July, I believe they go off your birthday or 1st letter of last name, not for sure. Either way it will be prorated for the rest of the year, now if you're lucky it will be close enough to the end of the year that they will allow you to register for the next year also.

I wouldnt think it would be more than 200 bux, but in April when you renew I bet it is about 400 or so. Let me know so I can prepare....lol

I think some of you are confusing Tax, Title, License, first time registration, etc fees for renewal fees. With several exceptions the registration fees in most states don't exceed 90.00 or so. Here is a list of each states renewal fees:

That site is misleading, for example..it says mine in NH is about $70 a year...yes true for the STATE, but.... You also pay the TOWN you live in and that's an additional $800
And that's every year on your birthday. The newer ,more expensive your car, the higher the town registration. Then you are blessed with a mandatory state inspection within 10 days, even on a brand new car!
