There are definitely more than a few weak points on these cars. We all have to decide whether we want to cruise them or abuse them. The latter will find all vulnerable components eventually. My friend's car wouldn't go into 3rd gear. I think it broke during a shift.
I doubt it was the actual gear but I didn't ask what specifically broke and he just wanted to sell the car so I don't think he cared enough to look into it. He threw in a used transmission and sold it to a dealer.
I think he was pretty much stock or minor bolt-ons. He also managed to break his half-shafts while shifting on the street haha.
Yep it’s sad considering how strong the 6r80 is, and even though the 10r80 is pretty finicky it can hold decent power. There are definitely more than a few weak points on these cars. That’s a good question. Tremec T56 Magnum or 3160? I haven’t looked into whether the 3160 has some shortcomings too, but I believe Calimer is rebuilding and beefing those up too now. Sounds like somewhere, someone or more than one has had trouble out of theirs, otherwise, I don’t just see him diving into that tranny for nothing.Yep it’s sad considering how strong the 6r80 is, and even though the 10r80 is pretty finicky it can hold decent power.
I wonder how much it would cost for Ford to switch out the mt-82 to the tremec for all manual mustangs.
based purely on FP/Jegs and such the retail cost is the same between Tremec and MT82. I'm sure Ford's cost has a more significant spread. But a $1000 upcharge to the base price would hardly raise any eyebrows considering the multi-thousand dollar hikes last 2 years.I wonder how much it would cost for Ford to switch out the mt-82 to the tremec for all manual mustangs.
Still waiting to see all these claims. I think it's way over exaggerated . 99.9 % of the time it's the driver. Except for the 18 only shift forks. Those were wet noodles ha-haI read a lot about the MT82 taking a shit
Wet noodle indeed. Watch how easily this guy breaks his 3/4 shift fork. To get right to thr meat of thr video, forward to 7:30 and watch from there.Still waiting to see all these claims. MT82 on my 2019 Bullitt functions well and feels just fine to me. I had E92 M3, AP1 S2000, and 2016 Porsche GT4 before this car. The transmission on E92 was not good. Some might like it but it was very loose, had a lot of play even in gears, the clutch was too light and the bite point was very vague. S2000 trans was good. Short throw and felt very mechanical and engaging. Felt very well made indeed. The GT4 trans was alright. Very notch when cold. Frequent grinding into 2nd gear. Not a lot of feel due to being cable driven. Every transmission has its own strengths and weaknesses. MT82 is not perfect but not hugely worse than those I mentioned I think. Use it right and you will be fine.
That damn third gear LOLLast month I exploded 3rd gear on my 19 during a fast shift. (not no lift) Ford sent an engineer out to my local dealer to witness the disassembly and take the damaged parts for R&D.
Unfortunately I didn't get to snap photos or talk with the engineer when he stopped by.
New updated hard parts are being covered under the factory 5yr/60,000 mile warranty.
I'll also add that I have an MGW X-spec and it completely eliminated my factory lockouts.
Yeah, that's one thing that keeps me away from BMW's... Just like you said, 2018 M3 that I test drove had the exact same loosy shifter. I don't really understand why they are designed like that. Aren't BMWs supposed to be "precise driving machines"? And it's interesting to see that many car reviewers (Youtubers) describe the BMW transmission as precise and engaging... hmmmI too had not one but 2 E92 M3s,thats just the way BMWs Getrag trannies feel. Even the new G8X cars with a manual has that loosy goosey shifter. I got used to it.
