how do you do it fast with minimum slipping and jerking?

My normal AKA sloooow method: clutch in, shift to 1st, find the friction point and hold the clutch there for 1/2 second, give it little gas while slowly clutching out. Repeat for 2nd gear. this method is nice and smooth but slow as hell.

If I rush the process, then I either give it too much gas, too much slipping or too jerky.

Do you clutch in, give some gas, then shift to first as the RPM is dropping as opposed to clutching in, shifting to 1st then give it gas from a low RPM?

thanks

Just do that faster. Or. Rev it up to about 2000 rpm or whatever won't make you bog. Dump it, floor it, feather the gas a bit to reduce wheel spin, then lay back into it, bang second, gone.

Just noticed you have a ecoboost. Same thing but you probably need more revs. Maybe 3500 if you have sticky rubber.

where does shifting to 1st come into play in this sequence?

You would already be in 1st at a stand still in his writing, your working the clutch & gas not the shifter.

It's just something that is a feel more then a step by step that can be written here, so keep practicing and that feel will come in time.

What you wanna do is as you letting out the clutch, give it more and more gas while keeping rpm the same. This way you are transferring more torque

If you haven't already, you might try removing the clutch pedal spring. I drove my mustang for about three weeks with the stock clutch pedal and absolutely could not figure out how to shift smoothly. I was starting to think I would have to sell the car till I saw a thread on here about removing the spring and gave it a try. Now I can shift nice and smooth and the car is actually fun to drive. Some people don't seem to mind the spring but it drove me crazy.

How to launch an automatic car:

1. Place car in neutral and floor accelerator.
2. Place in drive.
3. When you hear a bang, Swap in a manual.
