Am I missing a door, or do you have to walk through your laundry room, closet, bathroom, bedroom and dining room to unload groceries if you park in the garage?
Good eye! The draftsman actually had a small oversight on that when she first put the rendering together. There’s actually a doorway there. You can see it in this pic here.

The other thing we did was delete the french doors leading from the lanai into the dining room. After seeing it in the rendering, it seemed impractical.

Definitley a nice build and looks great via the images. Is this being built in FL, or a different location? Development, or more rural?

Best of luck!

Thanks! Yes it’s in Ocala FL in a small subdivision, but more rural.

This is the first I’ve seen this Adrian. Beautiful house my friend. Once I get there I hope we can possibly hook up and get together. Looking great.

Do you get a virtual walk through rendering first?

Looks like many partitions books and rooms combined making space feel smallish.

Not too late still in studs can just stable thin cardboard roll material for mock up to get a sense before go further.

As someone who spent 20 years as a residential builder/developer I love seeing this, look forward to you sharing more progress. How’s the construction quality out there, we talk often about downsizing and moving somewhere warmer. Florida rarely comes up due to the hurricanes

We did get a virtual walkthrough link, but I think it expired a while ago. Space wise, 2013 SF is actually more than I wanted, but less than what my wife wanted, so we settled on no more than 2100 SF.

Our last house was 2610 SF and that got to be too much for me. It also had a pool (which was a PITA to maintain and I did it myself every week). That was about 4 hours worth of work cleaning the pool, power washing the lanai and furniture and wiping down the lanai and pool cage for spider webs).

If we were to change anything up at this point it could get expensive. I actually think it’s going to feel nice and cozy with the smaller footprint. In my mind I’m thinking the older we get, the less we’re going to want to contend with.

Thanks! Come on across the pond, there’s plenty of space over here to build.

I took down the 2 post lift at the last house and put it in storage, so it’ll go back up here. This time around we added 12ā€˜ ceilings and high garage door tracks, so I’ll be able to open the garage door with a car on the lift (couldn’t do that at the last house with 10’ ceilings). You can’t see it in the pics, but underneath the wafer board on the floor in the 3 car garage is a recessed pit for my motorcycle lift.

I found a pic of the recessed motorcycle me lift pit.

We chose a small local custom builder here. He only builds about 10 houses a year, so we feel like we’re going to get a much better quality build as compared to dealing with another national builder. We’ve had constant and direct communication with him since the beginning of the build which was never the case in any of our previous builds.

The floor plan is one that my wife and I found online and presented to our builder, after which he worked with his draftsman and brought it to life with our desired tweaks; like adding the additional 3 garage bays for my shop area, 12’ ceilings in there and a few other things. I initially wanted a detached garage for my shop, but the builder informed us that it would be much more cost effective to add them onto the house, so that’s how we ended up with 5 bays.

The hurricanes are less likely given that we’re located in the center of the state, but high winds and tornados are a possibility.
